Bar Q for Anyone

Dan (and other helpful gearheads),

I have my bike all nicely set up. Final problem to solve: my armrests are 2cm farther away from the saddle than I desire. No, I’m not going to buy a shorter frame. I can get the bars where I want them with a Look Ergostem, but it’s heavy and ugly and blocks the insert of my Profile bottle. The ITM stem gets low enough, but places the base bar clamp 2cm farther than I wish it to be.

My solutions, as I see them, are:

(1) Get shorter C2s so that my hands are in the right spot. Downside is that that the pads move up my forearms and annoy me. I like my elbows right over the pads.

(2) Find clip-ons that have the pads positioned farther aft of the basebars than the C2s.

Q for you: Is there a brand of bar that has the pads positioned farther rearward than the C2s (or that are adjustable rearward)?

Thanks all!

Take a look at the Profile bars - carbon stryke or aerolite - you may not gain 2cm, but you will get close.

Yes, I think the Carbon Stryke will allow the pads to come back closer to me.

Follow-on Q: Does anyone know whether the armpads on the Carbon Stryke are higher or lower than the C2s? (relative to the base bar)

Hmm, I gotta think about this…

Hey, you’ve gotta have a ruler lying around somewhere…

Two solutions I have:

1: A 2 cm shorter stem.

2: An ITM adjustable stem.

Syntace puts the armrests pretty far back.

2: An ITM adjustable stem.

That’s what I’ve got, pointed as far down as it will go.

Under the heading “Do not try this at home,” I’ve figured out a way to get it to point down another 20 degrees or so, making it both a little lower and a little closer to the headtube. A small file and some care, and that thing is more adjustable than you might think.
