Bar end shifters... up or down?

I’ve recently swapped out extensions on my bars and am experimenting with the shifters being mounted upside down verses right side up. Though the shifters do stick up a bit (mounted on profile carbon x extensions), I do seem to be more comfortable shifting in the opposite direction.

Are there any pros/cons in mounting the shifters one way or the other that I might be missing? And (an important question), aside from safety/performance, are there any gains or losses in the coolness factor? :wink:

I liked mine slightly better pointing up and at me, but the internal cable routing (Syntace) forced me to point them out.
It’s not really a big deal.

For safety sake I have mine pointing forward. After a quick exit over top of them (hit a dog) I was glad they moved with me instead of grabbing my jersey or spearing me.
