Banff/Jasper Rides

I’ll be in Banff/Lake Louise next weekend (23rd -26th). To train for Dev’s Canadian Zofingen** **the following weekend. Not really. But, if anyone in the Calgary area is interested in doing some riding (or trail runs ) send me a PM. Distances: 120Km to 160Km. Pace: end of season ez pace.

I’m thinking:

Fri: Ride into Kootenay from Banff

Sat: Lake Louise up the Icefield Parkway

Sun: ?? (something with Sunwapta Pass in it. )

Hopefully it won’t be too cold.

Cheers!

Trevor

This is pretty bad when you invent a training event so that guys can train for a real event like www.americanzofingen.triathletesonline.com, and then guys actually train for the training event, by flying to high altitude and riding mega vertical and also get the HCT jacked up to 49.9%

Trevor, have a great trip, and like I said try and track down Mike Hayes in Calgary.

Now that I think of it. I better start training with my blood alcohol level above 0.08. Doing the Canadian Zofingen on Sunday morning after going to The Market Saturday night I’ll need some practise.

Bring all your warm gear, booties, tights, gloves, jacket, etc… a week ago we had a lot of snow at the higher elevations.

The weather can change notoriously quick… you might go from sunny skies to blinding snowstorm in an hour… even in September. The weather usually changes mid-afternoon though… so getting out early is essential.

Thanks. All my cold weather gear is packed and ready to go. I’d bring them even if I was going in July. I’ve been watching The Weather Network’s 14 day forecast for the last couple weeks. Right now the trend looks warmer (if 0- 10 C is warm ). But that’ll change by tomorrow. Geez Calgary hasn’t been very warm lately either.

I guess I’ll either biking or XC sking.

I remember packing for IMC 1995. It was the last week of Aug and it was 30+ all week in Ottawa. After IMC, the plan was to camp in the Banff/Lake Louise area, and I am packing winter jacket, gloves, toque etc and my wife looks at me like I am an idiot (well, she might be correct, but that is on other topics…). Anyway, come Sep 2, we are camped in Banff and it is 1 degree C and she has all my winter gear on and I am left with my warmup stuff from IMC. First thing the next morning, we went straight to the Hot Springs, followed by a hike up Sulphur Mountain !

I’ve also been checking the Sulphur Mountain webcam for the last couple weeks. This is the first good shot of Banff in awhile. Most of the time the picture has been all white.
