What is the slowest time you have ever heard of for a 1500M swim in Tri?
I am going to break this record in My frist OLY July 22.

I did a 44:30 for 1500 at the CJC (Calgary) race at Lake Midnapore in the mid 90’s - have at 'er!
Gotcha!
Windsor Triathlon June 1998, 1500m river swim.
My first ever open water swim, in a borrowed long john wetsuit with a gaping neck at the top.
First 900m is upstream, river was in full flow after recent heavy rains.
52 mins 02 seconds. Last out of the river, despite not starting in the last wave.
My PB for that swim course is now 28mins, so it does get better!
It’s not uncommon to have the last swimmer out in 50-55mins, depending on the cut-off (usually 50 or 60 mins).
Pikers. At last year’s inaugural NJ Triathlon, the last swimmer was 1:19:45. 6 people were over an hour.
Ask me in October… my first olympic distance tri… I suspect I’ll win this contest ![]()
In one of my first oly’s, my swim split was slower than my run split (both were 38:xx). The swim time itself isn’t that slow in comparison to the others posted here, but I bet not too many people have pulled that kind of negative split off…
In a local stroke & stride last year, Silvio Guerra won the short course, doing a 750m swim in 18:45 and then the 5k run in 15:39.
Can somebody please post what some average times would be for, FOP, MOP and BOP for 1500m. I am also doing my first Oly in October and really have no idea what to expect or even shoot for.
Thanks alot
Some guy went 1:26:46 at Memphis In May last year. Seven people over an hour. The water was like glass (brown glass, but glass).
Which Oly in October? I’m in for the one in Pinehurst, NC the 6th of October. If I had to guess, I’d say the swim will take me 40 minutes (1st and only sprint 750 m swim took me 18 minutes.)
Toyota US Open in Dallas. October 14th.
I would say 30 minutes can be considered middle of the pack. Back of the pack would be over 40 minutes. I have no way of knowing about anything having to do with front of the pack swimming but from what I read it would be around 20ish.

My guesstimates for 1500m
elite: sub 19min
FOP: sub 23min
MOP: sub 30min
BOP: inside the time limit!
261 out of 280 swimmers in an ocean mile. 36 mins, probably against a mild current. Most were college or high school swimmers, and I am not anywhere close to that age.
