Anyone know if these are available in Canada/ US? If so price or who sells them?
These are the new AX-Lightness carbon fibre brake calliper.
They weigh in at just 69grams front & 59grams rear (without brake pads).
The callipers are a hollow HM (High Modulus) carbon moncoque design, with a single titanium pivot bolt, running on a pair of custom sleeve friction bearings.
They have a CNC machined alloy cable adjuster, and use a 'V’Brake type quick release mechanism
The stiffness of these brakes is so high, that the braking performance is awesome.
Calfee is the US distributor but they are only offering a very limited selection of AX products (only 2 models of saddles and they are the heavier 80kg models - you can’t get the SL 70kg models which are much more comfortable).
You can order the brakes or whatever saddle you want from Poshbikes or MDT Products in the UK though both have long waiting lists for the brakes and I am not sure that even a couple people have actually gotten them yet. MDT’s price list had them at 500 GBP, roughly $765USD sans VAT currently so they are very expensive.
I believe the weight for the AX brakes is without brake pads/holders. The Zero Gravity brakes are quoted with pads (and if you use Corima you can get the weight down to ~168g for the pair) and are a lot cheaper (and fairly readily available) so I would recommend going with those if you are looking for a very light cool brake. They work great too.
Not to hijack your thread, but I would love to hear how you are liking your Kuota Kaliber. It is one of a few carbon TT bikes I am considering. If you would care to write a review I would very much appreciate it.
Pete, unfortunately I am not yet in receipt of the frame as I have been messed around by the importer and I cannot find anyone selling a small in the US or Canada, which is a shame as I intend to visit Tom for a fitting ( but haven’t had details back from him yet) whilst I am visiting my GF between the 12th and 19th. The latest info I have is that delievry should be between the 10th and 16th. You should send an e to UK Gearmuncher, his large arrived back in early August, he is racing in the Duo Normand TT today but would be able to give you a detailed account on his return.
Thanks Mises, it was POsh bikes that provided the information that I cut onto the post. I was hoping to find a US/Canadian supplier for my visit this month and make a saving on the exchange rate as they are very expensive to buy in England. I guess I will look at Zero Gravity brakes although an aquaintance of mine that uses them on his TT bike is not too impressed with their stopping power.
