Webb’s swan song…4:06 mile.
Is there anyone in the Tri world that could come within 10 secs of that?
It’ll be fun watching him try to find his way in Triathlon. Good luck to him.

From Runner’s World race time predictor:
"Based on your 10K time of 28:32, these are your projected finish times:
1 Mile
4:07

7:58

13:41
5 Miles
22:40
10 Miles
47:15
Half Marathon
1:02:57
Marathon
2:11:16"
.
I bet Whitfield could have run faster back in the day. I’ve heard before that if the ITU guys were to race a 1500, Simon would have likely won in his younger days.

agreed, I hope she avoids injury for most of her career, what a talent!
Calculators don’t mean squat, results do.

Yup…
Sean Jefferson, 3:56 miler and six-time NCAA All-American runner, started racing triathlon in 2009 after debilitating running injuries forced him off the track. Jefferson tells Triathlete.com about his successes and struggles in multisport, gives advice to other injured runners starting to race triathlon and answers the question, “how fast can the best triathletes really run?”

Lucas pre-injury. Not sure about now.
Thought I read somewhere Crowie was a 4:10 miler back in the day.
Funny part is, that 4:06 is ***just ***his swan song. At his best, Webb was a 3:46 miler
I’m pretty sure Dan Feeney was close to that as well before switching from track/XC to triathlon
.
Again I will point to Craig Mottram…

Being a top level runner does not make being a top level triathlete a certainty…
Remember, too, that he has been triathlon training, vs. focused run training, for at least 6 months now.

4:16 is very doable. If I recall, that’s Slowman’s mile PR from back in the day. Pretty much any of the top ITU guys could go 4:06 if they focused on running the mile.

He has run a 4:11, but I don’t know when that was…I remember reading that as well. He was a soccer player pre tri days, and may not have started serious run training until then he picked up tri’s.

I think the question was if anyone could come within 10 sec of that right now, not with specific 1 mile training, and not at their peak. Considering Webb has already started his tri training, that is pretty impressive. Not earth shattering, I don’t think the Brownlees are too worried about being beaten this season, but still impressive.
