In you case you have two options to enjoy it:
- ski
- learn to snowboard with your kids (do not view it as wasting time learning to snowboard, but as an experience you will be sharing with your kids).
Two different experiences and two different ways to enjoy that week.

This is kinda what I thought too… sucks to give up your ski days… but if you think of it as time with the kids, it might be just as good or better.
Is there a crappy little hill in Missouri that you can go to and take a snowboard lesson? Even if you have to drive a few hours, it might be worth it. Better to find out if you love it or hate it before you drop a few grand on a ski vacation.
I am 37. Been skiing since I was 10. Started snowboarding at the age of 23. I enjoy both, but I am a much better skier than I am a snowboarder. If the conditions suck, I will ski. If the conditions are epic, I will ski. Anything in the middle, I will snowboard.
And - Enjoy your first few times dismounting the chairlift.
If you enjoy trying new things with your kids go for the snowboarding.
I tried it about 6 years ago and fell about a million times and decided personally not for me.
Used to downhill, blew out a knee and thought I’d try the snowboarding. Now I only cross country ski and snow shoe.
Yes, there is one within 30 mins. I actually tried that route once several years back. It all started out very well, then I fell, fell, and fell some more, decided it wasnt for me (on that day). I could see even then how it would be fun, and I believe I will get better instruction at Copper. We are going over spring break in March, so snow conditions (ie lack of fresh powder) might dictate. Still keeping my options open. I really dont want to f up my wrists.
