Interesting thread about the Cali 70.3 made me think about Eagleman. I don’t race with power, but train with a computrainer. Same disclaimers about predictions, as it depends on conditions, aero and weight, but could anyone post what their avg power was for a split in the 2:2x range at Eagleman as well as weight, bike and how aero.
Not quite as fast as you’re looking to go but this was from EM '08:
2:32 time
Avg. Power 210 watts
Normalized 221
VI 1.05
22.5 mph
I’m 6’3" 205, bike is a Giant Trinity A0 and I was wearing a Spiuk Kronos aero helmet (huge mistake…It was Sahara-hot last year and 3/4 of the way through the ride I felt like my head was wearing a microwave and I literally stumbled into T2…lesson learned the hard way as I shuffled the entire run). How aero? Who knows but I don’t ride with much drop (8cm), ride at 79 degrees and my back is flat for the most part with just a hint of a hump. I rode with a HED3c up front and a FFWD Powerdisc in the back. This was done without drafting in the pelotons that you’ll find down there…not sure if they help you along as they pass you or not.
Hope this helps. There are a lot of guys on this forum that go much faster so hopefully they’ll pipe up as my result is rather pedestrian for down there. Have fun!
Not a direct comparison- but at IM AZ, which is also a flat course, and was really low wind this year, i clocked a 4:55 bike split at about 220 avg watts. So figure that is good for about a 2:27 range, assuming that AZ and eagleman are about the same flatness (not sure if htat is exatly true though)
Me: 195 lbs, 6’2", pretty good aero position, 8cm deep front, disk rear, latex tubes. Didnt come out of aero for more than about 30 seconds in 5 hours.
