Average speed, bike training vs. racing?

I’m curious how fast people ride in training compared to racing. Let’s say for rider A, most training rides are around 16mph average speed, and his Olympic bike leg PR is 22mph. So that would be about 73%. I’m training for my first triathlon, so I don’t have numbers for a bike split, but I would say my training ride speed compared to time trial speed is more like 60%. I.E. I ride a lot slower in training than in racing.

Thoughts?

Should be similar to run training. You will not go out and do all of your run training at your 10k race pace. Some training will be longer and slower, some will be faster intervals, others will very close to race pace. Not sure if that is what you are asking, or if you are asking for a way of predicting your race pace.

Not sure how useful it really is but OK,

18.1mph / 25.5mph = 71%

18.1 is annual avg from Garmin Training center. 25.5 is state 40K TT result.

But, most of my training is on a road bike and the TT is on a TT bike, so the comparison is skewed. I’d average about 2mph faster if I road the TT bike all the time, thus the percentage would be more like 80%.
