Autumn Run Workouts?

I’m currently in my 4th week of “off-season” and frankly I’m getting bored. I needed a mental break from training structure, but now find myself waking up at 5:45 again looking for something to do. I’ve tried drinking every night so maybe I’ll sleep later, but all that serves to do is give me a headache when I wake up at 5:45.

So in the interest of fighting boredom I’ve decided to do more running for the next two months or so. I’ve been searching around, looking for good run workouts and thought I would poll the experts herein on their favorites.

My goals are:

#1 - to prevent myself from becoming fat, pale, bored, reality-TV addicted, raging alcoholic

#2 - to get faster (open 10k is 37:30 mins, I’d like to be in the 34-35 range)

#3 - maintain/increase endurance (this was my 3rd multisport season & I want to continue to improve this off-season)

#4 - Maintain current body composition and even reduce bodyfat going into next season

Trail runs, the longer the better. Cool weather, fall colors, what else do you need for a nice outing. Plus it’s easier on your joints, works your hill strength and endurance which will all help your goals.

What about fartlek? What kind of intensity??

Please somebody, those damn Sam Adams Oktoberfest’s are calling me into their icy clutches!!!
