Anyone taking dips in Lake Austin w/ the gym closures (not ladybird/townlake). I use to swim off pennybacker bridge (boat ramp access) in the 90s when in High School, but haven’t in quite some time. Thinking of heading there a couple of mornings to keep some swim shape intact. Any other OW swimmers hitting Lake Austin?
Might be a good idea. Sounds a little more appealing than trying to swim in my 20-yard community pool. Keep in mind you’re supposed to stay within 50 ft of the shore. There is also a swim area in the lake at Emma Long Metro Park.
FYI the YMCA is keeping their pools open for lap swimming (for now) EDIT: closed. looks like i’ll be sneaking into the community pool during off hours. should probably go take a temperature check of the water.
I didn’t know swimming was allowed in Lake Austin or Town Lake.
I know of a couple spots around Lake Travis.
Beneath the dam is like swimming on treadmill
Right, no swimming in Ladybird (Townlake). But Lake Austin (north of Tom Miller dam) you should be able to swim. As the poster above stated, close to the shoreline.
There is also a swim area in the lake at Emma Long Metro Park.
ah, good call… I wonder if the Park is closed.
I work near Emma Long and I will check out the situation and report back.

Were you able to swing by there today? Thinking of heading there for a lunch time swim tomorrow or Friday if open.
I will be going in to work today at noon. I’ll take the truck down and report back later today.
Just came back from the swim area and it is open. There is no signage saying not to swim, but there are signs saying “swim at your own risk†“no lifeguard on dutyâ€. There were 4 people in the water and it’s divided into 3 areas from the shore to the buoys.
what about the lifetime gym that has the attached rock quarry thing? i went swimming there a while back, really nice place. is it covid closed?
Yes, all Lifetime gyms closed on Tuesday. I swam there Monday and they told me on the way out the bad news…
