Before I ask this question, I do know that Barton Springs is open year round. However, it is cold and I find swimming there very, very boring. I prefer 25-50yd lap pools or true open water swimming.
My question is are there any pools in Austin that are open year round? I know that Stacy is open year round (is it heated?) and it is free, but isn’t it dedicated to lap swimming only from 6-8am during the winter or is it all day? What about weekends? Are there any pools open on the weekends during the winter here?
Also, I don’t want to join a program and pay $50 a month to swim. I want either free or where I pay up to $5 to swim for a session.
I am also looking for a pool in Austin…I’m doing IMFL but will be in Austin from Oct. 21-24. I need a place to swim!
I don’t wanna bust into UT and name drop, but i’ll do what I have to do if there isn’t anywhere else to go. I’ve never been to Austin so could someone point in the right direction?
After Deep Eddy closes, the only pool left open is Stacy and fireface said that it is “mildly heated”. Damnit, I want at least 72 degrees when I swim during the winter.
Don’t know how far north you are, but check out Clay Madsen rec center in RR. It’s an indoor heated pool with at least 2-3 lap lanes almost all the time. Annual membership for residents and certain corporate employees is very cheap.
