Austin 70.3 Water Temperature

Can anyone tell me the water temperature of Decker Lake for Austin 70.3?
Thank you.

Bump
.

bump…out of curiosity.

is this race typically wetsuit or nonwetsuit?

Wetsuit.

I’ve done the race all 4 years they’ve had it, which includes before it became a “70.3”. Three of the 4 years it has been wetsuit legal, but just barely. One year the water temp was in the low 80’s, no wetsuit.

The weather continues to be abnormally warm in Austin, so I would think it might be a no-wetsuit year. Except that now that it is part of the 70.3 series, I expect that they will find a way to measure a wetsuit legal temperature.

My prediction is the real water temp will be about 80, but the WTC official water temp will be wetsuit legal. So wear the wetsuit, and expect to be very hot at the end of the swim.

Cheers,

Stopped Clock

Can you tell me about the bike and run course? Not much info on the website.

If it’s legal, you’d be foolish not to wear it, but that said. I’m praying you guys get a cold front over the next two weeks

It is supposed to only be 83 tomorrow, then back to low 90s for the next 10 days…

Nighttime temps are forecasted to be in the 50’s starting next week. That will bring the lake temp down a lot.

just looked, the 10-day forecast lows are 64-66 at night… not too warm, but not too cool either.

I guess it depends which weather service you look at. Can’t they agree.

Considering the summer we have had, I would hard pressed to believe 50s will be the norm in the coming days (it was 76 when I got up this morning).

50 would seem like winter if we get it.

Rain last few days will greatly affect water temp and nights cooling off will also, expect it to be wetsuits for age groupers , interesting to see swim waves 5 mins apart (just did Lake Stevens and waves were 3 mins apart)
.

Things are heading in the right direction with air temp and the nice rain this weekend. Lake Travis is measuring 78 degrees while Lake Pflugerville & the Pure Austin Quarry are pulling 76 already. So if the trend continues we should be ok for wetsuit. However the insane groupings on the swim waves will have some of us very WARM by the end of the day!
Here’s to a great 70.3 (& my first 70.3)!!

Bump. Just curious if there was any additional info on water temps. Thanks! =)

water temp was measured today, it was hovering right around 76! We measured it at 2:30pm, when the air temp was 92. A strong cold front is hitting us for the next few days as well, with lows in the upper 40’s at night, and mid 70’s during the day. Good chance it’ll be wetsuit legal. No guarantees, as it somewhat depends on whether the power plant is generating alot of power, as the lake helps cool the powerplant. I’d bring your wetsuit…

I’ll get out there mid week and go for a swim. Give you my butt-thermometer reading.

No offense, but I’m not really sure I want to hear about your “butt thermometer”!

Mine says 98.6 or so.

surely you’ve heard of the butt-dynamometer…same idea. The neologism was…I admit poorly thought out.
