Austin 70.3 | Too young to rent a car

Hey, the Austin website says you need a car to get to the race site. I’m only 19 so there is no way I can rent a car. Can anyone help me out? (home stay/share car rental??) Thanks.

You should probably post up what part of town you are staying in so folks will know if it would be convenient to help out. Have you considered camping out as an option. I believe, check the website, that camping is allowed.

How do you plan to get to all of the other race activities(check in, etc…). ?

Thanks. I haven’t made hotel reservations… so this I can make there wherever is easiest for anyone who wants to help me out.

take a shuttle. Stay at hotel near race.

There is no shuttle to the race. From the Longhorn website… There is no bus to the race site and hotels.

legs, I will be coming from MS. I may have room in my truck it just depends on if my training partners wife comes or not (they haven’t told me for sure if she is coming due to work). Go to beginner triathlete and go to the Texas forum. There has been alot of talk over there about the race and you may get some help. Also you can see the post on Austin hotels, I booked ours through priceline and got a pretty good deal.

There are a lot of hotels within a 5-10 minute easy spin from the transition area… There is a Bus that goes from the airport to numerous stops downtown (can’t remember the number now).

A funny quirk of vehicle rentals is that most car rental companies require the driver to be at least 25 - but you can rent a moving van at 18. If it comes down to it, a small cube van doesn’t drive all that different from a minivan/SUV, and you could have LOTS of room for your bike and gear. Hell, you could camp out in it, too!

I rented cars when I was under 20 (little more than a decade ago). The only difference was that the rate was higher since full insurance coverage was mandatory. Just bug one of the companies until they allow you to rent.

Check your pm.
