Atypical Attire in the Workplace

What do you think a Provost should make? I have no idea what he makes, but we could probably find out what Provosts typically make.

Until last year, the provost of the UMass Medical School was the highest paid government employee in the state. Oop, he’s the Chancellor not provost.

The new UMass bball coach makes 230k more.

Not a single patient has said yes. And like I said, the modern style of hats look stupid on me (my opinion). So backwards it is.

I did the AI thing and asked what’s a Provost make at a small university?
A Provost at a small university typically earns a salary that falls within a range, with the average around $113,822 annually. Salary can vary based on experience, location, and the specific institution’s budget. Some sources estimate a range from $70,000 to $162,000, with top earners reaching $204,114.

I would have guessed somewhere around $150k.

Public pay is easier to find

There are 8 people in Mass that have the title Provost: CTHRU - Statewide Payroll

$240k seems to be the going rate for state colleges and community colleges. But the Provost of UMass has a rate of $495,000 - he’s already made $150k this year.

I’m old and expect, at the least, business casual in the office, I was in a sales/account management office. The company gave a polo and dress shirt about every 6 months so it was easy to have khakis and a polo. They put a guy above me and he was coming into work every day in jeans and a t-shirt. If he wasn’t obese, it would have been different, but he looked like shit.

I had a discussion with him about how people dress in the office and he said it didn’t matter, that nobody cared. Even when customers came in, unless it was your customer, a lot of people, including him would still wear the t-shirt and jeans. I spoke to the Sales Director, who until this time I worked for directly, and he said, Rick can run the department. I received a lot of comments from customers who came about how people were dressed. It didn’t look professional.

I found out about a month after I left, a division President of one customer came in and commented to the President/CEO of my former company and a dress code was implemented the following week, business casual.

This was a professional office and I still can’t figure how they thought it was acceptable this whole time, knowing customers would be coming through.

My kids play baseball and they had it drilled in early that backwards baseball caps are disrespectful and you don’t do it.

Ahhh yes…the ever present unwritten rules of baseball. Always logical.

Way to many factors to answer that. That’s like asking what a CEO should make. CEO of a multi-billion multi national or the CEO of a single store retail shop will make a lot different.

Fixed it for you.

The most disrespectful Baseball Hall of Famer ever?

Idk, man…seems like baseball has some of the most ridiculous unwritten rules.

Saw an interview with him the other day on why he wore his hat backward. He said that when his dad was with the Reds and he’d go out on the field with him, his dad had an extra hat and the bill flopped around and in his face so he put it on backwards and then it just stuck with him.

The unwritten rules of baseball are not meant to be logical. The fact they are a unwritten but still carried forward from generation to generation tells you all you need to know of their value.

Certainly had one of the most disrespectful batting stances and follow-throughs.

Don’t you dare disrespect a pitcher by acknowledging your homer. But make sure you let him flex on you and scream when he strikes you out.

Don’t you dare swing on 3-0 if you’re up runs. But also, plenty of innings where teams mount incredible comebacks.

Don’t steak a base if you’re up or down by a lot.

Dont flip your bat.

Pitcher will compromise the bases and plunk someone just because his feelings were hurt.

Etc etc.

Yea… they do tell me all I need to know. lo

ETA: just because it’s tradition and has been carried over for generations doesn’t make them any less ridiculous. There are plenty of traditions that should just be let out to pasture.

I like how in hockey a fight will happen and the refs just stand by and watch until someone hits the ground.

Fighting in general in hockey has its own code and unwritten rules that have certainly evolved over time with the game.

Most of baseball’s unwritten rules revolve around the fact that major league pitchers are prima donna babies.

One stupid tradition is dying… pitchers who have a grudge against a batter/team are allowed to throw at one batter as a freebee. The 2nd HBP gets you ejected.

Umpires are now more likely to run a pitcher after his first attempt if they feel he did it on purpose.

I’ll leave it as show respect to your opponent. If you do, respect will be shown in return. A tradition deserving of front and center focus. Outside the lines of the field of competition, it goes by the name of the Golden Rule.
