Attn: klehner --> Becoming an Ironman

Hey ken,

The other day I picked up the book Becoming an Ironman, which is about different athletes first encounters with an ironman distance race. You’d be surprised at the amount of training/experience that some folks have before they enter a race (and finsih it … some in respectable time).

I post this to you because I read something about you having a 4-year plan for an IM race, and some people in that thread encouraged you to “just do it”.

The one thing I noticed abouyt most of the athletes in the book is that all of them were scared of the race, feared they trained too little, were anxious that they got in over their head, and then ended up doing okay.

I am considering a IM distance race for Sept 2005 (Ultrmax in KC … my old home). I won’t need too much urging to make the leap. So, if you’re looking for someone to “take the dare” with you, I’m here.

No discussing creation/evolution on the run though, OK?

good book - quick read - thought it was inspirational as I work towards my first IM in Aug. Got me to thinking about journaling my own IM training expereince. Have written 115 single spaced pages in the 8 moths. Very interesting to look back on thoughts and ideas I (you would) wave as you go through this journey. Keeps me grounded and provides perspective when I am freaking out as I’m 9 weekd from the big day.

Hey TT,

I live in the Kansas City area and am also pondering the Ultramax for 2005.

Keep me posted on your plans.

Let’s do it (why not?).

I ran the idea by my old buddies in KC and they’ve pledged their 100% support to ridicule me all the way. grin

Time permits me to do 1-3 official races per summer, so I might as well get my money’s worth (considering a full year of training).

I may (time-permitting) go to this year’s race.
