Two deaths in three weeks on the WO&D Trail near Hamilton, I believe between mile markers 41-42. I know this section well, it’s a tricky downhill stop and I often do a rolling stop at that intersection. We all need to be extra careful (myself included) on the trail nowadays. Still, as dangerous as the trail has become it’s still better than most roads in Northern Virginia. Below is the link to the article. BE SAFE and I’ll see you on the Trail.
Did the Reston Century yesterday and the flowers were still fresh at the site. What is it – 2 within 72 hours? My friend broke her hand in a car evading move when she didn’t fully stop at a drive way (near the Reston Town Center).
Hamilton is uniquely hostile terrority in general (roads). Everytime I ride there some death defying event occurs.
Another way from Rosslyn is to take the 4 mile Custis trail. It begins at the sidewalk that separates the Key bridge Marriot. Go West there and 4 miles it will link with the W&OD.
Yes, it’s you I’m referring to but note my restraint from mentioning that you were without the cast during the century. I agree with your (obviously) more intelligent husband on this one. But then again, he didn’t throw his body in front of your bike to stop you either. You must have massive pain tolerance. Impressive.
FYI - went to the hot tub with Rob and James afterwards. That’s the second time you skipped out. It would have been more fun with you.
Excellent! This was my first post on this site…I’ve just been an observer. It sounds like you had a fun day yesterday! We just went home to our menagerie of critters and hot showers.
There was quite a bit of bloodshed during yesterday’s century, too. I saw more than just a couple of bloody people rolling in. But there were also some wackos going 3 and 4 abreast on the trail, and not yielding to oncoming traffic! And a couple of people were ‘helmetless’! Things can change drastically in a split second, we can’t make any assumptions out there!
Saw a few bloody faces at the tent - not an attractive landing point. Looks like we all did pretty well. If there are any RAT century injuries I’m not aware.
It’s not just the WO&D trail that needs caution. Cars are bigger and idiots run rampant.
