Atlanta Training Ride?

I am just curious if anyone knows of a group ride leaving from 15th Street on Saturdays? I saw some people airing up for a ride last weekend and I am trying to figure out if its an on going thing.

Along that same note, I need a group to ride with in Atlanta. Does anyone have a group they ride with? I am training for NOLA 70.3 and IM Louisville. I am new to Atlanta, and don’t have a group to ride with as of yet. I moved from Florida and had a great group I rode with there. It seems many people ride alone or just with one or 2 other people in ATL or they are strictly roadies and hate seeing the aero bars roll up even though I have no intention of using them on group rides! Any advice on this stuff appreciated!

Thanks!

Catherine

if i’m not mistaken the “airport ride” starts between midtown and buckhead and goes south on peachtee right by 15th. i used to ride with them and
had no problem showing up with my tri bike. another great ride is “beyond 6 flags” – again mostly roadies but no problem with aero bars unless you were
reckless.

Triyourbest? in Stone Mountain has a Saturday morning ride. triyourbest.net

Has a list of rides. The Southern Bicycle League requires you to sign in but they have a list of rides almost every day of the week. I’ve been away from Hotlanta for two years, but these should get you started.

Good luck and welcome to Atlanta.

It certainly depends on where in Atlanta you are going to be?!??! The rides listed I’m sure are all very good. Another GREAT ride is the Webb Bridge Ride. If you are in the Perimeter/Alpharetta/Roswell/Cumming area, it is by far your best bet. They have no problem with a tri-bike, but they don’t really want you getting in the areo position. My understanding is that this is a no-drop ride. I’ve also attached a link from a website with a listing of most gripu rides in the ATL. Hope this is helpful and have a great ride! I’ll be running a 1/2 marathon that day.

airport ride starts at trinity loft area (on Trinity Ave) about 3 blocks west of Peachtree. It leaves at 10 AM - and there’s a 42 mile and 58 mile loop. I suggest the 42 mile loop (which breaks off after about 25 miles into the ride). The short loop goes straight- after you cross train tracks, the long loop goes left. The ride regular has about 150+ riders at the start- including last week. There’s a nature brake approx 10 miles into the ride. The other site- listed above- sadlebred- is the premier road group ride listing. If you want training by yourself- the silk sheets loop- (you can find details here: http://www.mycoachchris.com/FILES%20Ride%20Maps/Silk%20Sheets.pdf ) and lots of other ride maps here: http://www.mycoachchris.com/Ride%20Maps.htm If you let me know the general area where you are living- and your ability- what type of pace you can hold by yourself and what you can hold in a group ride- say for 30 to 40 miles, I can offer some suggestions.

Are you sure you don’t mean Castleberry Hill on Peters Street?

technically- you’re right… Trinity turns into Peters street- for about a block… but most people know it as Trinity Ave- since majority of people come from Peachtree street… pic of start here… how about we just call it route 154

As stated above, Sadlebred is a great source to start from. Assuming you are inside the perimeter, since you mentioned 15th street, the area is very hilly and kind of sucks for LSD ride training. There are a ton of tri people that ride Columns Drive up at the Chattahoochee. Also, the roads that follow the river on the Cobb County side offer some nice lengh and are fairly flat.

The airport ride is really good, but it is pretty much a roadie gig. There are some aero setups there, and I have never seen any problems from it.

Mark is right about the Sunday Airport Ride. It use to leave from Peachtree Battle, but they moved it south. Many people ride there in smaller groups. A buddy and I ride down from Brookhaven, and always pick up folks. I think there is a large group that rides together from Decatur. The Airport Ride can easily attract 200+ people on a nice day- mostly roadies but a good share of triathletes and women. There is one pee break and then one store stop on the long option. Take a map. The ride drops lots of people. It was originally a LSD ride, but tends to get fast now. Mostly flat with some climbs in the middle part.
