Atlanta Area - Moving but

Well, after an exhausting search for a job…I am happy to say I landed one! With it, I have to be in Atlanta and need to move. I have to start very soon.

My company is paying no relocation, etc. I am about 9 hours away from Atlanta and still have to sell my house…and long term get my kids down as well…but heck, I am just happy to find a job.

What I am asking is for any advice on possible places to stay for the short term… I want to be in the Northern area as my office will be near Riverside…I am thinking about living out of a tent, camper, etc…for the short term…I will have access to Lifetime Fitness (they have a few locations one in Mountain Brook) to shower, workout, etc. Are there any good suggestions? Perhaps a State Park that allows campers/tents/bikes?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated…I don’t have a lot of cash and need to conserve it so I can get back home to see my kids in the interim…

Mountain Brook…not sure where that is…Your job is near Riverside Drive?

Yes…my office is near Riverside and 285 (north)…I will actually be working all over Atlanta area…with different clients…

There is a state park for camping just North of ATL off 75. Its by or on Lake Alatoona (sp). Been there hiking its nice.

What type of work and when are you starting?

Thanks for the heads up!

I will be down next week…possibly living in extended stay in order to look around. I don’t know Atlanta that well.

I am in Information Technology, I will be working more specifically in Information Security.

No problem,
My e-mail is smtyrrell99@yahoo.com I don’t check it real frequently, but send me an e-mail and I’ll send my cell phone number.

Check Craigslist. There are a number of condo’s/apts right there at 285 and Riverside. You can likely find something cheap.

Also, the Chattahoochee River and Park is right there. It’s a good place to run. Never seen anyone camping there.

Lots of places to bike but Silver Comet, Budwesier plant and several places in North Georgia come to mind. All3Sports.com is your local tri shop.

Welcome to ATL.

Yes…that’s also what I am looking on. Perhaps sharing a room or basement…for a short time.

Looking forward to the training down in Atl! Better weather than what I am used to.

Red Top Mtn State Park is the one on 75. But… what an awful commute!!! 75 south to 285 east is one of the worst. Riverside at 285 is where westbound traffic gets real heavy in the afternoon, but eastbound in the AM, once you are off 75, is not bad. I drove that commute for many years, driving a vanpool.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of good back roads to get to riverside. There used to be, but it’s gotten a lot worse over the years. When I moved here in 91, there literally was a rush hour. Now, 75 south will be stop and go starting at 6:15 from Wade Green down to 285. Rush hour ends after 7pm. I used to work in Los Angeles… traffic in ATL is comparible.

Can’t say that I’ve ever seen any camping near 285/Riverside - although the 'Hooch runs right along there. Lots of appartments in the area.

BTW, I love riding around Red Top, Cartersville, Etowah Indian Mounds. That’s where I did my training for IronMan California (the original full IM in 2000). Just watch out for rednecks in pickup trucks! There used to be a group that met on Cobb Parkway near Acworth… not sure if they still do.
