Atlanta/Alpharetta peeps

I’m in Alpharetta this week for some (work related) training. Any ST’ers in the area? Wanna hook up?

You may be able to hook up with some runners and riders at Columns Drive (Cobb County) in the afternoon…if it aint too cold…

Do you have a ride for your visit? If not, there are some bikes available at Blue if you need one & some great guys to ride with.

If you want to borrow a bike while visiting, let me know.

I’m working in Norcross on Tuesday and afterwards a friend and I were going to go trail riding and running nearby if you’d like to come. We could switch to just running if you don’t have a trail bike. I can’t haul both of my mtn. bikes with the current car setup, but I’m always up for a good trail run. Also Wednesday I was going for a long run if you’re up for that.

By the way, welcome to not-so-Hotlanta. Did you bring this cold front with you? It was beautiful yesterday and then blam, freezing cold.

Andrew

Yeah, sorry about the weather man. I came from Vancouver, which is just thawing out from a crazy snowstorm (Well… crazy for Vancouver - it never snows there!). The good news is that Whistler/Blackcomb had a record snowfall of over 4m in November! That’s 13.5 feet of snow in one month, people. DAMN!!!

Unfortunately with the shape I’m in these days none of you are going to want to run with me (and, being a genius, I only brought warm weather clothes thinking that it would be at least 65-70 deg in GA). No ride, either. I’d be up for dinner or drinks if anyone’s interested though…

You’re in luck, there’s a bunch of pretty good places to eat in Alpharetta. I’d be up for eating after the ride tomorrow. Where in Alpharetta are you at? Do you have a car?

Sounds good. I’m staying at the Marriott on Windward Parkway, and yes - I do have wheels. I’ll PM you with a cell #.

Any other Atlanta/Alpharetta ST’ers?

Thanks for the offer! Unfortunately I have NO riding gear with me, and not a tonne of time either. Perhaps next time I’m in the area.

Is Blue local? I had no idea…

Khai…only if you promise you take this cold weather back with you.

No can do on tomorrow night --taking the boyfriend to Tenacious D (first the movie now this, somehow those IQ points will come back I just have faith in that!)
if you go to put together something for later in the week, think I have some flex time. I can’t do any form of exercise for at least one more week (Doctor’s orders) so up for dinner. Describe price range and food and there is a million good snooty places in Alpharetta.

Yep, the world HQ is in Norcross. Next time bring gear & give me a little notice

I’ll do my best on the weather, but if I bring it with me Gary, Mike and the gang in SD will kill me!

I should be free Wed or Thurs eve as I have class in the daytime, and then its open study time. I’ll PM you with a cell # where you can reach me.

Yes boss.

We should just do things Thursday night then. Looks like work is going to run long tonight which means my trail run will be late so that would put dinner very late. If you’re up for it we can try and coordinate with Eileen and anyone else whose in the area and just do the dinner Thursday night.

Hello,
You are about 1 mile from the big creek greenway. If you go out the Marriot and cross windward, you will get to the YMCA the Big creek greenway goes past. 6 mile long paved trail, good running.

I may be able to eat and/or Thursday7th. styrrell@houghtonintl.com

I also may be able to ride Friday during the day. Let me know how tall you are and I may be able to hook you up.

Hey, thanks - I asked the girl at the front desk if there was a nice park nearby where I could run, and she told me that most guests just run up and down Windward. Shockingly, there’s a sidewalk! Even more surprising was that there was grass beside the sidewalk, some of which I was able to run upon and save my joints.

How’s the pool at the Y? The hotel pool is one of those “splasharound” pools. Great for kids, useless for a workout.

Unfortunately I’m leaving on Friday, so no time to do anything. The Thursday dinner seems to be shaping up well though, with at least four of us and potentially more.

Okay - so who’s in and what’s the plan for dinner tonight? You & Eileen have my cell #, and Eileen just PM’ed me with hers.

I’ll be in class 'till mid afternoon so if you call before then please leave a message (it will be on silent).

Any other ST’ers, respond here so you don’t get missed!

The Marriott was actually the transition area for the DU Worlds a few years back, and the DU Nationals in 2003. You can come out of the hotel, take a left on Windward, then go about 1/2 mile and take a left on Alderman. That takes you back to a much more secluded office park with nice wide streets to run on.

I’m not in Alpharetta, but my office is on Cingular Way off of Windward. If you’re on an expense account, Cabernet is very good and has an excellent wine list. The Village Tavern has the best pork chop I’ve ever had and Vinny’s on Windward is also good (Italian.) Taco Mac is good for drinks and scenery. Have fun.

What kind of food is everyone in the mood for? Possibly more importantly, what kind of food is everyone NOT in the mood for? Any budget considerations that need to be taken into account?

I’ll go ahead and second Vinny’s and I’m ALWAYS up for Cabernet, but considering the long drive I’d have ahead of me afterwards, it’d really take a lot of the fun out of the place. It’s the best place in Alpharetta for spending all night ordering up bottles of wine. Not very slowtwitch approved but a hell of a good time.
