Bankrupt finances for a bankrupt idea.
Guess it isn’t good for business when the product kills too many … no repeat customers. Ken
I found it very interesting that they wouldn’t release autopsy results when he kicked the bucket. Seems the family was hiding something. If the diet he created was so damn healthy, why not release the autopsy results which would show he died of natural causes. Hmmm, methinks it’s because his little diet may have been the cause of his demise.
I don’t know about his health, but didn’t he slip on the ice, fall, and hit his head? Not exactly like Jim Fixx.
Carb up, baby!
yes this is how we the public know that he died–he was not wearing a helmet at the time he fell. but he also had heart disease and the family was protective of this information because the whole Atkins program and company would come under public attack.
okay…well…maybe if he wasn’t obese (BMI of 35 according to the measurements on this site http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/02/16/atkins.widow/ ) he would have been more agile and wouldn’t have slipped on the ice. I don’t know, just trying to cover up the fact that I didn’t know he fell after a slip on ice.
At any rate, if the diet he preached and more importantly SOLD to the world is so damn healthy, then the family should put up or shut up. Was he otherwise healthy at the time of his death or not. There could not have been a more perfect opportunity to “prove” that the diet was actually healthy. Methinks they were hiding something.
not trying to pick a fight, but how does heart disease relate to falling, hitting your head, and dying? Or are you suggesting he had a heart attack and fell? that would certainly be relevant.
btw, I came across an unfamiliar brand of helmet last weekend - Catlike (I’m not making this up)! Do you have one?
maybe you’re right. If I ate bacon all the time, I’d be bigger than Superclyde!
He slipped & fell on the ice in NYC. His wife is a god digger & spent all of the $$$. Not a good business women. These are the facts I see them as. As far as heart problems, eating like he suggest will surely plug you up one way or the other.
Smitty
let me explain it again:
he died from traumatic head injuries/a bike wreck. during the time of his death it became public knowledge that he had heart disease. because he had heart disease his diet program came under attack…for obvious reasons. his wife was on tv defending the diet plan, etc, all in attempts to save the Atkins brand. Not long after he passed, his program was reformulated to encourage fewer saturated fats, more fibourus carbohydrates, etc. through all of this the program lost face and became under scrutiny (even more than it already was).

I am pretty sure that the company was actually sold ($275 million?) by his wife to a buy out firm right after his death, which was close to the top of the market. On that basis, seems she wasn’t a bad businesswoman…
You are correct. But, from what I’ve seen of her on the news…in my book she is a gold digger.
http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/jun2004/nf20040618_5434_db061.htm
how do you conclude that she was a gold digger from that? The article doesn’t say that she is spening money on herself, but that she is spenging money on some research. Whatever the research sounds like to a carbo-eating tri person, it only says she is working on helping reduce obesity and proving the diet’s efficacy, which souns like a “reasonable” aim for a person who felt the company was her/their life. She is in her mid 60’s, only a few years younger than him, was married to him for 15 years (well before he made most of his money). It doesn’t seem she’s jetting to St. Tropez with the pool boy…
I know many vegans who have heart disease…
There is also genetic factor that put people at risk. It doesn’t matter how they eat they will always be at risk…
Reading more about her…I do take my statement back. It appears now that she is a loving wife & must say a good business women. Thanks for correcting the statement I made from just seeing her on TV. Can’t judge the book by its cover. Live & learn. Thanks for sticking up for her.
Here is a good article:

You can only deprive yourslef of carbs for so long.
for me, about 24 hours.
that is not a long term solution to weight loss.
I know many vegans who have heart disease…
How “many”? (and for the record I am not vegan)
