My one shoe smells awful, I am guessing from athlete’s foot. What is the best way to get rid of it? Someone told me that I need to get all new socks and shoes, because you can never get the fungus out of them, is this true?

Might be, but there are odd bacterial superinfections that also cause this (like Corynebacterium minutissimum). A quick (and fun) test. Get a blacklight (yes, like from the 70’s) and shine it on your feet/between toes in a dark room. Any red /orange glow like you stepped in a bag of doritos? If yes, c. minutissumum. No - doesn’t mean, no, but more likely fungal (dermatophyte). Simple antifungal powders generally work, as does UV light, air shoes/socks out, don’t run barefoot, etc.
