A friend of ours (with a three month old baby), was astounded to find out some athletes are buying cases of human breast milk for “athletic enhancement” reasons. I’ve never heard of such…I didn’t even know it could be purchased. Anyone else hear of this? I mean, I buy COW breast milk all the time and don’t think much of it. However, when I buy Rice “milk”, I always get a funny mental picture about rice.
I know that chickens have breasts, even though they don’t have milk. I’ve even heard of man-boobs. But I’ve never considered that cows, giving milk, don’t have breasts.
udderly ridiculous (sorry)
.
Human milk contains a variety of growth factors, although I’ve never understood how they would esacpe digestion and become regular amino acids.
ARe you sure it isn’t formula they are buying? Formula is high in calories and protein with a number of vitamins etc. added. I don’t know where you can buy cases of human breast milk. My son was premie and in the hospital they were breastfeeding nazis - if they could have bought it instead of formula for the mothers who where having trouble they would have.
Sure you are not getting confused with some of the activities that go on in your local red light district?
I see a business opportunity here - now to convince my wife AND our 8 week old girl that she NOW needs formula as daddy can make some money with a bit of “help” from her mommy!
One of the dairy farms on the Im Moo Course has a sign that says “What we have we owe to udders.” Always makes me laugh on the bike.
I was skeptical about her claim, too. She says it wasn’t formula, but the real thing. OOPs…I guess Coke already has “the real thing” as THEIR trademark. Anyway, this friend joked that she finally found the ideal stay-at-home job…make money, lose weight, and (generally) not need birth control!
They want Colostrum (sp?)
I’m off to visit the neighbor’s wife!
At one time breast milk was ‘banked’ for use in neonatal intensive care units. BUT, since it was found that AIDS could be transmitted in breast milk (remember Elizabeth Glaser’s children, who got it from their mother {who got it from a transfusion}) that practice was discontinued. I’m not aware that one can buy it. This is either highly illegal (and dangerous) or a scam (which is also illegal.)
BTW, Rice milk (which is obviously not milk) has very little protein, and in no way replaces milk or soy milk (soy beverage).
I think these knuckleheads are involved in some sort of scam…it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
I agree that colostrum is what they are after. It has a lot of immune boosting stuff in it. (Pardon my lack of technical terms)

The word “breast” always gets my attention. Slight digression here. Did anyone else see the story a few months ago about a stripper arrested for some sort of assault after she squirted a patron in the face with breast milk? Not sure why he took offense, a lot of people would pay extra for such a performance.
it’s b/c he didn’t pay extra. why complain of freebies at a strip club?
