At IMAZ - Looking for pool

i’m in mesa right now doing iron sherpa duties. however, in addition to making sure he’s got everything he needs i also need to get my own training in. i’m set for rides and runs but am looking for a pool; preferably an outdoor 50m (outdoor because i’m from seattle where it’s been cold, wet and rainy for months on end and 50m pool because they’re the best!). i know the sundevils have drop in masters but are there any other pools nearby? i did a quick search and it seems as if the city pools are closed for the season???

thanks in advance for any help.

I was ther for a conference for work in Feb & had a similar situation. I stayed in Mesa over the weekend before moving to the downtown area. I ended up using the pool in Eldorado pool in Scottsdale. Even thoug it was a drive either way. It was $2 for the 25 yd outside pool. Lots of lanes. Will want to check the hours.
I being from Portland wanted to swim in outside etc. Weather was terrible rainy & cold when I was there. My 1st day I didn’t bring a towel & they didn’t rent them. It was hard to get out of the pool in the cold rain to get back to the locker room.

The otehr nice thing about the pool was its by the park with a long bike trail that gcontinues north & south into Tempe wit hno interaction with stop lights etc. One morning I got in a good ride without having to deal with any other folks on the trail not really knowing my way around.

I als ofound there is a YMCA in Mesa but one needs to arrange for guest passes & it was more expensive.

hop this helps.

It’s a 25 yd pool, but I belong to LA Fitness and can sponsor you for guest passes if needed. I think it’s $10 for a week, I could be wrong.

John

thanks - that’s really helpful. i saw the eldorado listed but was worried it might be a bit far. if i can combine it with a ride it would be perfect.

No problem. We’ll see you at Rula Bula tonight…RIGHT???

Why not attend the morning open swims at TTL for IMAZ … check the athlete guide but should be morning times thurs/ Fri/Sat. They don’t typically require you to be a competing athlete … if you need a loaner wetsuit they often have those available either there or at insideout sports in the athlete village. Beats a pool anytime!

Search here. One of the things it shows you is the size.

I haven’t swam in any 50m pools here, so don’t have any helpful advice.

Although, you could go OW swim at Saguaro if you wanted. During the
week it’s nice and quiet, and actually has some beautiful scenery.

Irish pub, pretty decent grub, good Guinness, located towards north end of Mill avenue. 6:30 pm, gonna be between 30-40 STers and adoring fans.

John

ahhhh…i forgot about that. yes! we’re definitely going to try to make it. i’m sharing a house and a couple more people are arriving tonight so scheduling is weird but hopefully i’ll get a chance to meet you and the rest of the STers

“Irish pub, pretty decent grub, good Guinness”

I think Gandalf told me that he bought a week pass to the university pool (not sure which pool, but I assumed it was the student rec center) for $30 and can swim anytime there. I think it’s $6 a day or $30 for the week. I think they are set up as short course though. I didn’t have much luck finding a 50M pool

I just got back from the ASU student rec center pool in Tempe- many outdoor lanes but all are 25m. $7 for a day pass.

Parking - visitor garage at Rural & Terrace - go west off Rural into campus about 200 y(the one nearer the pool is closed to public). Walk to student rec that is just southwest of the garage.
