Astrotri's No Good Horrible Rotten IMFL Week

Got to town with lots of pomp and circumstance… then everything just went downhill from there.

  1. My girlfriend flaked out and didn’t come to the race. My buddy’s wife took a job in Dubai so she also did not attend.

  2. Get into the backseat of the rental car to hit the athlete meeting, I lift up my butt to get the seatbelt out from under me, sandal slips on the carpeting jamming my foot under the front seat and taking a chunk out of the end of my left big toe. That bastard didn’t stop bleeding for two days. Probably should have gotten stitches, but I’d rather tape it up and still race.

  3. Friday I start feeling ill, and by that night I am full blown sick. Fever, muscle aches, mega-fatigue, sinus congestion, the works.

I still got up at 4am this morning, loaded up on drugs and decided to race. Swim went well (1:07) and bike was good until I hit the ridiculously strong wind in the last 12mi after the Bay Bridge (5:48). I made the fatal mistake of doing something different than my training, and I downed a GU at the mile 60 of the bike. My gut seized up and I got gasy around mile 90, and when I headed out on the run it felt like I had a balloon full of pudding in my upper intestine that wouldn’t pop. So I walked alot and made lots of stops at the porta-johns, finally got into running shape on lap 2 just in time for my left hamstring to pull and set me back to walking. “Run” ended in a grueling 6:31.

So I finished my first Ironman despite a lot of hindrances in 13:38:45. I’m not to keen of the creepy bug bite on my right calf that is now an array of red bumps, but the folks at the med tent were very helpful and gave me some darvoset for all the pain.

And I saw miami79 at the Gatorade swim and on the course today… she’s hotter in person than in picture.

I agree, and smaller than Francois! Miami, you can’t weigh 100 lbs wet do you

Congratulations on your finish, especially with all of your challenges.

All these troubles make it seem easy to only have to get up every morning and go to work, doesn’t it? Way to keep perservering! Although you may be a nut, it’s just a question of degree…most everyone doing an Iron Distance race is a little crazy! I hope your next one goes much more smoothly.

wow.

you crossed the line however.

well done.

Great job!!! An IM race never goes to plan.

Dave

OMG :-s
.

If she’d drop a few pounds, she wouldn’t be too bad, but then again, I have a few years on most of you.

i’m beginning to wonder about you…

I hope she’s on her way to see a doctor in that picture.
