Assos FuguJack

Anyone see this jacket? It goes for over $500, they say Fugu, I say Fugoff.

Well, I haven’t seen it yet, but I am looking forward to checking one out.

The jacket is expensive. But it is one of those things- if you have to ask the price, then you (and I) can’t afford it.

It is for someone for whom $500 is a $20 bill. I’m addicted to Assos. It is the best. Clothing as equipment.

I picked up the Gator jacket for $150 and that was a steal. The problem with that jacket is that it’s too warm. You get hot and sweat to death at 10f. If this jacket is as warm, it’s not that usefull. I agree on the brand though, I still have a leather chamois pair from 1985. I was thinking if I had a million, most of it would go to Switzerland.

I have a Gatorjacket too and an Airblock Jacket. You are right though… The Gator Jacket is so warm I can’t imagine a need for anything warmer.

No doubt, Assos clothing is head and shoulders above the next closest competitor. It is tough to argue that it isn’t the absolute best, and it does make riding (especially winter riding) so much more enjoyable.

However, the company does occasionally have a somewhat pretentious vibe. I can remember Assos “receptions” at interbike where a bunch of vaguely European people were standing around in their booth eating wine and cheese. It was weird. I was like, “Ahh, I just want some good lothes for my bike… I don’t fit in with the black suit and shirt, wine and cheese crowd.”

I gave some of the shorts to my fiance’ and it was game over- now nothing else is as good. She has a taste for nice clothes. -Likes the chamois cream too.

The stuff is great but I think it is lost on most customers. The value of a $200+ pair of bike shorts or a $500 winter riding jacket is lost on a person until you meet them at the half way point of a nasty 60 mile winter ride when they are wet, freezing and miserable. If you could meet them i the middle of a nasty, wet, freezing winter ride and say, “Hey, want this Assos Fugujack for $550? you’ll be comfortable for th rest of the day…” They would be like, “Ahh, yeah! That’s a bargain! I’d pay anything not to be this miserable!”

But yeah, it’s expensive, sometimes a trifle pretentious, and always the very best.

well stated.

I too am in the early stages of Assos love. It is wonderful. I only have one pair and I’ll plan which ride to wear them I love them so much.

There are some things that are worth the money, and Assos, IMO, is one of them

I an Assos jacket that sells for over $350+ and a Giordana that costs about the same - maybe a bit less. I will tell you that they are both miracle jackets in weather under 30 degrees, even as low as 0 in the bike. If you plan on riding in sub freezing weather they are a god send, as is airblock tights (as some of you may recall)…just DONT CRASH…imagine tearing holes in $1,000 worth of clothing!

Tom

Will you be in the store Thursday?

I sent you a PM

Maybe the fugu isn’t as warm and addresed those concerns. I also like the fit of the airblock better, wow a combo of the two and to feel good at 10f is hard to come by. A guy just had a gator on ebay and the tag also states that it is good to 60f. You might as be wearing it at 100 as the temp inside would be the same. If they make a Liquigas colored one, then I’ll bite.

Yup. I’ll be here.
