Looking for a shoe for marathon distance. What is the Komodo, how is it different from the nimbus/cumulus variety? Anyone tried this shoe yet?
You’re going to be better off in something like the Nimbus, Cumulus or Landreth for a marathon/marathon training. The Komodo, although comfortable, is not really designed for serious running. It is designed for folks who want a cool looking running shoe that they can use on the treadmill twice a week and wear to the gym or to the mall. Good luck.
RoadRunnerSports.com usually includes the phrase “favorites of the high mileage runner seeking (whatever type of shoe)” when a particular shoe is meant for serious running. You’ll note they don’t say that about the Komodo…
Used to be that you could fairly well determine a shoe’s running suitability by its cost…but these days you have $60 shoes that are perfect for real running and $125 shoes that wouldn’t be suited even for a light jog around the block.
To Shawn…I hate to suggest that Asics take a page from Nike’s book…but it seems they’ve helped runners a bit with their Bowerman series…it helps Nike buyers sort the wheat from the chaff, so to speak…perhaps Asics needs to somehow differentiate their serious running shoes from the Komodo types, at least for the new runners out there who are unfamiliar with the Asics line(s).
