Asics GT-2140 Wearers - any pain?

I’ve been wearing the Asics GT line of shoes for 11+ years going back to the GT-2040 with nary an issue. I am in my second week of running in the newest version which is the GT-2140. I had two 7-milers in them with no issue and on Saturday ran 15 of 18 miles with no issues. At about mile 15 of the Saturday 18-miler I started to have some pain on the outside of my lower left leg and that got a bit worse as the run finished and towards the end caused me to change my gait just a bit. I thought it was just the muddy and somewhat rocky trail/road I was running on and let it go at that. Yesterday I ran on streets again for 8 and I could feel where the pain was, but it was not nearly as painful as Saturday. Then today was 7 miles on streets and it hurt a bit more than yesterday.

The soreness is on the lower outside portion of my left leg where it is (i guess) just muscle and no bone so I’m not thinking stress fracture or shin splits. I think the new GT’s have structurally changed in such a way that they have changed my gait? Is anyone else having a problem after getting the newest version? Even just sitting here at my desk with my feet flat on the floor if I raise my toes while keeping my heels planted I can really feel the area that hurts while running while the other legs is fine.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I have had no problems and have been running in them for about a month or so (though shorter distances than you). I loved the 2110, had major foot pain with the 2120’s and skipped the 2130’s because I had read consistently bad things. Like you, I have been running in some version of the GT series for a long time. For me, the 2140’s are the best version in quite a while Of course everyone is unique but maybe it is just a running injury and nothing to do with the shoes.

Yeah, same for me with the 2120. Blister issues right away. No biggie. As I started increasing my mileage though, I developed a pain in my left shin a few mos. ago. Ran through it and shin pain went away. Then a few weeks ago a pain developed just below the left knee. Well, I switched to Kayanos over the weekend and in 2 runs I feel the pain going away.

Structurally, i dont think the 2130’s are different than the 2140’s.
2140’s have a new sockliner
also, the overlays on the top of the shoe, toe box region on the outside is arranged ever so slightly different, giving the foot more room in the toe box. This was a very small change.

I was a happy wearer of the GT series for my first 2 years or serious running/marathoning. In 2006 when the “new” model came out (don’t remember which it was at the time), I got the same pain you are experiencing, outside on the lower left leg. It got pretty bad after about 2 weeks and it turned out I had developed tendonitis of the peroneous brevis. Saw my ortho who prescribed anti-inflammatories, did some pt, swiched to the Cumulus, and the issues went away.
It’s so frustrating when the updates come out and suddenly your beloved shoe gives you problems. I have been loyal to the Cumulus but then the 10’s came out and now I am having issues with those. Just went online and ordered some clearance 9’s and will wait to see what the 11’s bring. . .

I’ve had no issue switching to the 2140s.

I’m a 210 lb male running anywhere from 25 - 40 miles per week.

I’ve ran in the GT series for 10+ years, back to the 2000 or 2001 if I remember correctly. I’ve always been able to just put them on and go. This stopped with the 2140, due to foot/lower leg problems similar to what you mentioned. I rotate 2 or 3 pairs of shoes so I’m not exactly sure my problems are from the 2140 (or something else), but I suspected them and quit using them. That pain went away but of course something else started to hurt so who knows. I disliked the shoe enough that I am done with Asics, except for maybe the Landreth (sp) if I can find them and the ride hasn’t been changed.

I have always worn the gt series. I use the 2140’s 3 times a week by running home from work which is an 8km run. I run with a heavy backpack containing my water pack and clothes from work. The GT 2140 has great support and go from footpaths to grass with great stability. There is no roll with this shoe and the only soreness i have is from the distance it self plus backpack.

I tried for the first time the Kayano 15 this year and when you compare the two shoes the GT have it all over the Kayano’s. The kayano’s toe collapsed and made the front the shoe very uncomfortable. The GT are alot softer and are alot less susceptible to roll.

Cheers

Wait, so you probably pulled your soleus on a rocky/muddy trail, didn’t let it heal, and you’re wondering why it hurts? Maybe it’s the shoes, or maybe you’re not taking care of your body.

It sounds to me like you hurt yourself, may be unrelated to the shoe… but I wanted to let you know that I’ve had little problem getting my hands on the 2110’s still. I hated the 2120/30 and haven’t tried the 40.

I’ve been wearing these shoes for 10+ years as well and something seems off about the 2140’s…I just started getting the narrow version with my last pair of 2130’s …maybe my problem is with the different width.

I think it was the trail and rocks and mud that tweaked something that day. I did take care of my body (unlike a previous post suggested) and shut it down for a few days. I’ve been running pain free in the GT-2140’s since then as I would expect to be.

Thanks all!
