As college football approaches, I give you ... Sal Aunese and other football-playing baby-daddies

Making me feel old.

An old friend and master of useless sports info just provided this amazing nugget, which you probably need to be over 30 yoa to have any memory of this. As my friend lives in Denver, I randomly just mentioned Sal Aunese, the dying Colo Buffalo qb in maybe 1990 who spent games in the pressbox on a ventilator (giving Kordell Stewart the opportunity to fling it to Michael Westbrook). he mentioned that Sal was the baby-daddy to Coach McCartney’s grandson, which is a nice way of saying he was fu%*ing the coach’s daughter. But I knew that already. What I did not know until he told me was that the kid is now an LSU qb. Apparently, the mother went with her last name, not Aunese, who I think had died before the birth.

Speaking of babies, it is JUST GREAT that Bridget Moynihan named Tom Brady’s john edward thomas (I think, but those are definitely the initials), J.E.T. That would be like Brian Urlacher’s love child being named “Packer”.

Finally, more related from today’s paper. this guy’s gotta pace himself.

Travis Henry, RB DEN
News: Denver Broncos RB Travis Henry’s child support judgments might expose him to catcalls across the league this season, but they don’t put him in line for disciplinary action by the NFL. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported over the weekend that court documents in a Georgia child support case show Henry, 28, has fathered nine children by nine women in four southern states and has been ordered to pay child support for seven of them. He also had to borrow money from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, to fulfill one of those judgments, according to court records. The revelations came in a case in which a judge in DeKalb County, Ga., last week ordered Henry to provide $3,000 a month and fund a $250,000 trust by the spring for a boy he fathered out of wedlock three years ago with Jameshia Beacham, now 29.

Here’s another pic with the proud grandpa. We miss you Mac.http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff188/averyupdike/MCCARTNEY.jpg

Thanks for making me feel my age. I recall that story and I could have sworn it happened just the other day. Now the kid’s playing football in college . . . . .

Sorry
.

In another pseudo-QB/legacy story…

Doug Flutie’s nephew, Billy, is playing for BC and caught a couple balls in the win over Wake.

The ending of last years Boise State/Oklahoma game was phenomenal, but BC beating Miami back in '84 was epic.

Wow. I remember this really well.

I was with Bill at the first Promise Keepers meeting. There were a dozen or so people there. Sal came to church from time to time too.

Coach Mac was a great leader. I dont follow the church any more but I do remember his ability to motivate you to be a better person. He changed our lives for sure, possibly saved them. Our family was in a world of hurt when he stepped in and straightened out my pop. We spent that first christmas after meeting him at a rehab center. Doesn’t sound all that nice but it beat the hell out of watching the grown-ups get waisted and fight. Figure I was about 11 or 12.

Anyway… random thoughts… wow.

I’ll be sure to watch LSU football this year.

ok, let me make more people feel old. son of the 'Straw …

Anthony Gywnn plays for the Brewers. Jarrod Sandberg plays for Texas.

How long before there’s like 4 more Ripken’s in baseball?

**Anyone else got one ??? **

Zak DeOssie, son of former Cowboy/Giant/Patriot Steve DeOssie is a rookie linebacker/long-snapper/all-purpose guy with the Giants this year. Dan Klecko (son of Joe) is in the same role with the Colts and also caught a touchdown as a tight-end in the AFC championship game last season.

For hockey fans - Ray Bourque’s son Chris is a winger with the Washington Capital’s AHL affiliate.

Who knows how many illegitimate kids are playing college/pro ball, in a variety of sports, due to athletes getting their “sexy on”.

Sal lived in my dorm when we were Freshmen at CU. I remember a couple years later that I was coming back from a road trip to the University of Wyoming, my Junior year, when I found out he passed away.

FYI - his replacement was a kid named Darian Hagan. he would through the ball to Mike Pritchard or hand-off to Eric Bienemy. Defensive standouts for the buffs at that time were Alfred William and Knavis McGhee. There was another guy named Joel Steed who I was friends with . He later went on to play for (I think) like ten years for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I guess I havea legit reason to root for LSU.

still, GO BUFFS!!!
