SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -
A noted hurricane researcher predicted Wednesday that rising water temperatures in the Atlantic will bring a “well above average” storm season this year, including four major storms.
It looked like they had learned their lesson from the last two years of terrible forecasts, but today they raised their earlier modestly aggressive forecasts into the stratosphere.
I have learned my lesson that they now pump the hell out of storm number forecasts by handing out storm names to thundershowers, but storm name inflation doesn’t have much of an impact on the total storm power number or Net Tropical Cyclonic Activity (NTC). Their forecast of 160% of normal is a very high number.
Anyone up for an over under? You won’t be surprised I will be opting for under.

It sounds like the Insurance companies are doing their best to get those premiums back up. With the past few years being benign (despite the dire predictions in each of those years), and the insurance market softening up, the premium rates, particularly in Florida, are going down and it is making some of the big boys nervous.
It’s only a matter of time until some “expert” says this could be the worst year ever.
