Any thoughts on how Lance will spend his days after retirement? It has to be a big adjustment going from hard core training to, uh, retirement… What happens next? Didn’t Lemond put on a bunch of weight and become a race car driver or something?
He stays retired for about 4 months…then maybe the Giro, World Hour Record, Classics…who knows. But he will NOT stay retired. Just wants to spend more time with the kids. But also said he was goin to be Cheryl’s road mgr. How is that going to work??
Get ready to see even more of him on the Discovery Channel, though. You thought you were burned out on Lance while he’s training 60 hours a week?
He spends his retirement in a funk after Cheryl dumps him (no longer in the limelight).
He will retire from the Tour and then aim to take on the Giro and Vuelta and the Flander’s triple…
I think the theory of him entering politics and/or fundraising spokesperson carry the most credibility with me.
I predict that Treks will become “Lances,” or something like Trek will start a “Lance” or “Lancer” or “Armstrong” line of bikes. Or Lance buys Trek. Or Nike decides to start making bikes (it’s gonna happen eventually…) and uses Lance as the hook. Or something like that, a la Merckx, LeMond, Coppi, etc., etc.
He will take six monthes off to play golf, and then go on to become the worst sports announcer of all time.
Gonna be tough to beat Magic Johnson for that title…
Uh… they already do, he is the one who choose the name Madone.
I’d still like to see him take a year to work on his swimming and running and give IM a try. JUst once. Would he ba ble to go fast enough on the bike to make up for his weaknesses on the run and swim.
You’ve heard carmichael, right?
Would he ba ble to go fast enough on the bike to make up for his weaknesses on the run and swim.
I would find it more interesting to see if he had any weaknesses on the run and swim after a year or two of training. But I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Tough…it’s just because you have never listened to Jean-Rene Godard and Henri Sanier at the TdF and Patrick Montel who takes care of track and field…those are really unbeatable…
I think he will want HIS name on a bike. That’s my impression… Yes, I’m well aware of the role he currently plays in bike design/naming/etc. at Trek.
No one will ever be able to beat Al Trautwig, IMO. He was so bad last night that I almost hit “MUTE.”

My take, based on his tri studliness in his youth is that he’d go 52-4:15-3 ~ 8:15 with transitions and on a good day, sub 2:50 (sub 2:50). It would be great to see. I don’t think he’d hammer himself on the bike and try and go 4 hour (ie 45 kph average), as a guy like Armstrong is smart enough to respect the distance.
Dev
so he’d still be slower than LVL’s record
.
I think the theory of him entering politics and/or fundraising spokesperson carry the most credibility with me.
That’s my vote, too
I wouldn’t be suprised if a reality show is in the works.
