As of now, the forecast is 25C and rain for EPICMAN. Oh well, I guess it beats the freezing rain and howling winds of last year.
Too early to worry about the weather. Regardless, local news is saying 75 with a 30 % chance of pm showers. Nothing to worry about.
The forecast for this past weekend in Lake Placid was mid 20’sC with a 90% chance of rain and thunder storms. Well we got the mid 20’s temps, but there was only scattered rain showers and for the most part in was sunny. The real rain and thunder storms did not arrive until we were driving out of LP and heading home at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon.
On the big downhill to Keene, the road was a little wet from a passing shower, but we were still reaching 70 km/h down there. Lot’s of fun ![]()
Never worry about weather until the day before the event. The day before, find out what it will be and dress for it. This is all that you need to know. Thinking about weather is advance is a waste of CPU cycles in your brain :-). Better to focus on what you can actually control.

This seems like a good time to repeat a sage piece of ST advice:
SUCK IT UP PRINCESS!!!
This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your regular programming, already in progress…
Anything less than Tsunami and above the 50’s is an improvement over last year.
It’s gonna be a beautiful day, regardless of the weather.
It’s EpicMan, not PantyMan. (uh oh, last time I said this it came back to bite me in the ass ![]()
That’s funny.
I don’t remember freezing rain and howling winds last year. A little cold at times but the Lake Placid Brewery warmed all the hearts afterwards.
I think it is the fault of all those people that did the Harriman half IM and are showing up at EpicMan. They just want to brag some more on how tough that day was.
Oh yeah: ![]()
RockMan is calm and sunny - high of 80!!!
The only thing that I would be worry about is lightning during the swim other than that just let come down…
Ironman LP 2003

that was my plan. but i think i’ve seen the light: i am not training for an ironman, we’ve got logistics problems at home if i go, and my daughter has a big presentation at school on friday. despite my eagerness to come up and ride with all the ST LP studs (because i won’t be swimming or running with them, thats for sure), its not going to be this year …
Harriman was a reminder that the it is better to be prepared for anything. I threw some chemical foot warmers and booties in my bag for LP this morning after a very chilly run. It was in the low 40’s in the Adirondacks this morning. Predicting the weather in this part of the world can be tricky. Also it will often be sunny on one side of a ridge and raining on the other.
My friend the tv weather guy admitted recently that with a graduate degree, the national weather service data and a doppler radar he can beat the farmers almanac “most” of the time.
My guess for friday is hazy hot and humid with a couple of showers in the afternoon.
For my 90K Wed morning hammerfest ride it was 4 degrees C…I realize this is Ottawa, but WTF??? It is supposed to be June! Anyway there were 6 of us and we hammered the 42K TTT with 2500 ft of climbing in 1:14.24. Not crazy hard, but enough to soften the legs up for Friday.
I’m not worring about the weather…if it is hot great, if it is cold, I’ll have the full winter gear at my disposal ![]()

I agree that there is no use worrying about the weather. Kinda like getting upset about traffic, taxes or anything else there is no way control
I LOVE racing in that type of weather. Something about it makes me really push the pace. Not sure why.

Alex, thanks for the reminder about that day at LP2003…I nearly died in the medical tent that day, so every time I get a reminder of that day, it makes me thankful for bouncing back and having good health again!

It’s called “insanity”, the worst conditions, the thougher course the better… I know that feeling…
On racing days that doesn’t bother me a bit, on training days I try to avoid them as much as possible by re-scheduling some workouts (indoor) or on another day.
For me training camps or training events (Epicman) fall in the same category as racing there’s a commitment and usually you can’t change the plans but at home, you will not see me getting out on my bike when it’s raining, neither running.
