Are you sick of Armstrong yet?

Well, not yet for me. However, by the Tour maybe I will. My personal opinion is that he has returned to racing to promote his cause and not simply for the sake of racing. It is all marketing. Armstrong has become a poster child for a cancer cure and not a bike racer again. I am not knocking the cause and need for a cure just how he is doing it to stay in the public eye. Without him racing maybe Livestrong would fade away. Your thoughts?

I can’t wait until he races Ironman.

  1. He’s already said thats the reason why he’s back into racing, to spread cancer awareness. Granted thats what he’s said to the media, but I dont think his fire for winning is gone yet.
  2. Livestrong seems to have done fine in the 1,274 days he wasn’t racing…so I doubt it would have faded away had he stayed away from professional racing.
  3. I’ll never get sick of Lance…he’s good for the sport of cycling as a whole. Look what Tiger did to golf…now tournament winners are making $1million+. Golf club companies have gotten more competitive and brought better products to the consumer at lower prices.

I believe Lance didn’t have cycling out of his blood. I’m just a 53 year old hack cyclist and it’s not out of my blood. Why should it be out of his when he’s world class and only 37.

I believe the Livestrong thing is what it is. It comes along for the ride.

I believe there’s some really big money in the deal. There are some really significant beneficiaries beyond the LAF. Trek, Nike, SRAM, race directors and race sponsors … big money. I don’t know how the dollars are falling, but the cash register is ringing somewhere (or will be) and I feel confident that has as much to do with this whole business as any other factor does.
.

I’m not sick of his racing. He’s a geat cyclist. What I am sick of is reading news reports everytime he sneezes or goes to the bathroom. He takes headlines and doesn’t even do anything. There are way too many other great cycists in the sport to constantly read about what Lance is doing today.

ahh the internet, where we get to hear peoples opinions
.

No, but this Obama guy is really grating on my nerves. Have to
hear about him all the time. Can’t wait until the TdF is over and
he’s out of the spotlight.

Wait a minute…

Not at any point so far,

Granted, having raced against him in 1986 thru 88.

And having thought of him (and his close teenage friend Chann McCrae) as truly “one of us”,

(us being :age group swimmers/ turned tri guys/ turned elite cyclists)

I always enjoy him taking on the pro peloton with his "outside the box approach to the task…No Lemming here, Lance and his planners have been following a fresh path for more than a decade.

This year is fresh, I look forward to Milan-SanRemo, The Giro and the Tour Day France…

Fun stuff
tp

Anyone else get a little surge of adrenaline when he blasted the gap to the breakaway today? Man, that would have been epic if it would’ve made the difference for them (the breakaway) stay away.

I think Obama may fade a bit once he reaches the mountain stages, but he has a strong team that will help him. I think he proved during last year’s race that he has a lot of endurance, beating the favorite in the prologue and following it up with several stage wins that no one expected. And now several opponents are working with him, so he should do well, barring a major crash.

I was right there and when the commentator suddenly started saying Lance attacked with a few laps to go (I think 2 or 3)… you could hear people cheering and getting excited. It was exciting, but he got caught…

Not sick of Armstrong as I don’t know him. What I am sick of are all of the Lance lovers. I wish they would fade away or get a new hero.

serious

lance is an awesome cyclist

terrible hero

in fact there is only one pro cyclist in recent memory that is a good hero, and most people think he is a loser because he keeps insisting on stating the obvious truth.

its a sad world
people are dumb
oh well

That Obama guy is probably a one time Tour rider anyway. His legs will last but after that no team will want him.

Thanks for the laugh in a stressful time for me

As said before I like his racing, but all the media attention is kinda annoying. “Lance Attacks and gets in a breakaway for 30 seconds” is a kinda pointless headline though…

I was expecting just the opposite. I think he could challenge for the maillot à pois rouges
but just don’t see how, even with a strong team he can expect a FOP finish this year.
I think in coming years he might have a chance, but if his team doesn’t win in '12 it’s
hard to imagine a comeback.

I’m pretty sick of people talking about him…

It’s also kinda funny that, from what I’ve seen, most cyclists really don’t care that he is back, yet there are 10 threads a day here about him here on a triathlon forum…

Lemond
.

He’s a real joke now!! He should of kept his mouth shut over the years and stayed in shape! Of course I am referring to Lemond!
