Are you a bike dealer?

I bought a second hand road bike last week and as I was showing it to my wife she said “This one is really nice, are you going to keep it?”
So I was like, what do you mean? And she tells me “Yes, no, I mean like if this one is going to stay because you always keep them for a while then get another one.”

So I started thinking what bikes I owned in recent years and realized…I have unconsciously become some kind of bike trader. I think I have all the bikes that meet my needs now, although my wife said that I said that same thing last time. So I wondered, are there more of you guys out there switching/trading/buying bikes every year or several times a year?

Here is my bike history over the last 3 years. Looks kind of crazy now that I think of it. (*have this now)

- Motobecane Super Mirage* (got it from my dad, made it a custom fixie, great bike)
*- Felt Bandit Chopper **(Brother gave it to me, cruiser bike)
- Trek 2300 RB (did tris on this, but traded it in for a Trek 3100 MTB because my friends rode MTB, bad trade)
- Trek 3100 MTB (raced MTB for a while, but the bike was low end, and broke down, traded it for a euro CX bike)
**- Renault CX bike **(did tri’s on this with aerobars, but the frame was too large for me, so I traded for a Specialized Allez)
- 2009 Specialized Allez Sport (bike was great, but wanted to upgrade, traded for a 60cm Trek Madone)

  • 2010 Specialized Transition **comp **(bought this second hand, cheap, good deal. Broke frame when I was hit by a car. Insurance covered it so I got a Shiv instead)
  • *2013 Specialized Shiv **(Bought this new, still have this, great bike.)
  • **2011 Trek Madone **(Got this off a trade with the Allez, this bike was solid with great components, but frame was too big, sold it)
  • *CCM MX300 **(Bought this for 20 bucks for my wife, put some great components on there so my wife can ride with me, when I go easy)
  • *2007 Specialized Transition (Just bought this second hand cheap, this is my road bike, love it) **

No but yea, like I said, I think I’m set for now. (Although apparently I said that before)
Are you a bike dealer?

Nope.

Got a Redland Conquest (I think that’s what it was)
Got a Felt S32
Sold the Redland
Got a Felt B12
(four years later)
Bought a used Specialized Secteur
Sold S32
(2 years later)
Bought Specialized Roubiax
Sold Secteur

Got Specialized Roubiax and a Felt B12. I’m more or less set for pretty much anything I care to do.
