That city looks so beautiful. Are there any good races there? It seems like a perfect setting for a triathlon.
Anyone know?

Yes they have races there all the time.

The Trofeu brasil Rio is a nice, nice race. I did in my first year as a pro and absolutely loved it.
Hope this helps, Tom.
Thank you sir.
The kind of place Bond used to nip off to a lot, if I recall.
I wonder if there is a connection?
Does it really matter with those beaches and babes!

Check this one out… www.redbullgiantsofrio.com – more an adventure/team race, but looks like fun!
Wow. This one is cool. Rough water swim, hang glide, MTBing and sand running. That is super cool. It is a team event and there doesn;t appear to be any entry info for next year…
Very cool though. Thank you. I’m up for anything sponsored by Red Bull.
Earlier this year I was in Rio for business. My friend and I swam several times a day in the surf at Ipanema/Leblon beach. It was in the middle of summer, the water was beautiful, and the surf was pretty big. We were always the only people in the water, which seemed a bit odd. It was only after that we learned that the fecal count was so high that hardly anyone swims where we were. The water did smell kind of bad). It was spectacularly beautiful, though.
My wife and I were in Brazil this summer. Awesome, awesome place. Rio is just beautiful.
Careful where you swim. Ipanema (one of the really nice beaches) literally means “dangerous waters” in the traditional indian language used by the pre-colonial inhabitants. Could be one reason why not too many people were swimming in the water there.
I gather that wherever they run the triathlons the currents are fine.
And last hint, see the movie “City of God” after you go, not before. A brilliant film that really shouldn’t be missed, but it could make you a bit jittery about going down there ![]()
How odd you should mention that film. I picked it up in Blockbuster last night and it looked interesting. Now it is a must see. It got rave reveiws.
Holly Mackeral, 1:21 Am. What am I still doing at work!?!
City of God-- GREAT film!
I watched City of God before I went to Rio in May. It’s not a problem, a great film a real eye opener considering it’s based on a true story.
Rio is a great city and you must go to Corcavado and Sugar loaf mountain. Take a run along Ipanema and Copacabana on the " wave sidewalk".
But book the flight for a morning when the clouds are at their highest and book it as early in your stay as possible, we were there for 4 days and booked for the last 3 morning which were all called off because of low cloud.
I used Rio as a 4 day recover from Iron Man Brasil in late May a few years back…easy connections from Floripa.
