I was going to switch from the gov’t issued diacompe on my Dual (that rattles incessantly) to the Vision levers, then I saw the post about them rattling as well. How about the Profile levers? Any suggestions?
Speaking of rattle, think long and hard before you drop $120 on the Profile Split Second bars.
The vision brakes do rattle when you first get them but all you have to do is get a bottle of liquid oil for bikes and place it in the brake cable lock and pivot point and they are set. I have now had mine for 8 months and no problems since I put it on. they are sweet brake levers and will not switch to anything else since getting them. Plus they look great with your bike done up with the vision tech group and zipps.
Profile QS2’s don’t raddle. Neither do Tektro’s, and they’re really cheap. (see www.chucksbikes.com). The Tektro’s don’t have the solid feel of the Profiles, but they’re lighter.
On my Dual I used a bit of that gummy silicone glue - I forgot where though - and I never has a problem again. I think there is a little retaining washer that buzzes on each, right? I think I just put a dot of glue on those.
I ordered my bottle from gear west in minneapolis check thier website out at www.gearwestbike.com or call them and they will send it out to you, they are the ones who helped me with the original problem and they knew exactly what to do to fix it.
i just checked gearwests web site and they do not have it listed in the lubes section. So give them a call and ask for kevin and he will get you set up.

In the case of most aero brake levers the rattle can be eliminated by using some type of tool to squeeze the rivet that the lever hinges on. Most of these levers are peened together using some sort of expanded rivet/hinge affair.
If you carefully expand that press-fitting it will become a little tighter and the tighter tolerances cause the rattle to go away.
I have a set of Blackwell carbons and they are great. No rattle. Great return spring. Compfy levers. Light. I’m about to get a second pair for my other TT bike.
Tom, could you go through step by step what sort of tool and what to do for a non-mechanically minded individual? One of my Vision levers is very rattly.
