Are my hub bearings unhappy?

I’ve noticed something I wonder if I should be concerned about on the rear wheel on my mavic cosmic carbone SLs… when on the repair stand, if i were to get it cranked up to a pretty good speed using my hand on the pedal, hold the pedal still while the wheel is still going then let go of the pedal the crankset will turn with the wheelset - as if the freehub has some excess drag that doesnt allow it to spin without pulling on the chain.

I don’t notice this with any of my other wheelsets… and this rear wheel has seen very little use.

Is this something I should be concerned about? If so, what’s the fix? New bearings? Get the bearings lubed?

typical - it is probably pawl drag more than anything.

You’re fine, if you like you could open up the rear freehub, pull a seal, change out the grease for a lighter oil, just be prepared to service it more.
