Are all aero water bottles created equal?

Looking at the bottles from Profile Design, Bontrager and Specialized I was just wondering if any one had used more than one and had a preference. Or is there any wind tunnel data on one being better than the others?

I don’t know, but I’m hoping someone will chime in on opinions with the Arundel and Speedfil as well. The PD, Bontrager, and Arundel all look incredibly simlar to me. I can’t imagine there’s much difference other than personal preference between them.

Bontrager, Arundel and Profil have very similar cage.

Bontrager is a bit slimmer at the top, with slim “flat” cap - seems to be very aerodynamic. (And small opening - difficult to clean it inside.)
Arundel has round small cap, and is slightly larger in the top - seems to be less aero. (And is easier to clean)
Profile has a round big cap, larger than Arundel…

There is also a difference in total height of the bottles; bontrager was too large for my new frame, while Arundel fitted OK.

anyone have the Specialized bottle?

I have one…it works great! If you have the Transition it fits perfectly with the frame…like a “fairing”.

too bad I hav a P3, any thought?

I have been using the Speedfil for a few months. Compared to the PD bottle that I used before I like it more. It does not get you wet with every bump or effect the handling of the bike. My Giant has only 1 bottle holder so an increased capacity was needed. The Speedfil holds 40oz. I have a couple of issues with it. It is time consuming to remove from the cage for cleaning. The frame of the cage is molded into the bottle. You must loosen a clamping screw and pry the cage open to pop the bottle out. There is no aero way to route the straw around the head tube. I do however like the soft insulated straw with a bite valve (that doesn’t threaten to give you a tracheatomy). My plan for IMCDa is to add the bottle between the aero bars for concentrate and use the big bottle for on course water.

I tried it and while it has it's merits, the above issues were just too much to deal with. I went with a simpler solution: bottle between the aerobars and one on the downtube.

What bike do you have? I would say off the bat the bontrager will be best for the ttx and the specialized for the transition since that’s what they were developed with and for.

just switched from a TTx to a P3. It fits me perfectly so there is no chance of me changing anytime soon unless it’s to a P4

tom a. found that the bontrager made his p2 slower when he used deep wheels and the downtube mount. I would say try the arundel but I have nothing to support that.

Can you post a picture of Transition w/specialized’s aero bottle?
Thanks

I think Cervelo has the best aero bottle design. It even comes with a frame attached! http://www.daviswheelworks.com/images/p4_images/p4_drag_race.pdf
