Ok, first time post. I have been training now for 6 weeks, entering my 7th on a 20 week program for my first Half Iron Man. Last week I felt a twinge in my left arch after running for 47 minutes doing 10 30 second sprints with 2 minute active recoveries. I took a few days off and yesterday only made it for 35 slow easy minutes and felt the twinge again. It hurts when I walk, and is tender when I rub it. It feels as if I have stretched the muscle fibers as I can feel some of them move when I massage it. Can anyone tell me if they have had this experience and what they were diagnosed with and how they overcame it? Obviously rest is warranted here, other counter measures to take?
sounds like post tib tendonitis to me. I had similar sensations in my arch 7 months ago. Stop Running! go get it checked out, and i would say that it wouldnt hurt to start on some anti-inflammatory meds. I had to take 2 months off of running, so worst case your gonna have to do a lot of pool running in the coming weeks. Just get it checked out rather than do further damage and be completely screwed for your race. Best of luck! hope it heals.
Go see a podiatrist and also get fitted for custom orthotics. A lot of times running stores have much better deals than you can get directly from a Dr. (unless your insurance covers it).
Can be a few different things, likely early plantar fasciitis, but also PT tendonitis as was mentioned.
For now (until you see someone for hands-on exam), stop running, do not go barefoot. Roll your arch on a cold water bottle or similar. No stretching (for now - you will later). Learn to tape your foot/arch (google low dye strapping). What kind of shoes are you in? New runner? How old and how much do you weigh?
Oh, don’t forget to make the call … good luck for your 1/2 IM!

To answer a few of your questions, I have Asic Kinsei’s, not a new runner, 41 years old and weigh 215 pounds and am 5-11", hence the Master Clydesdale in my name. Thanks for the good information and I will be calling my doctor this morning for an appointment.
When does the stretching start. I was diagnosed with early PF and was told that it was caused by tight calf (soleus) muscles. Ive stopped running, got arch supports, been doing Trigger Point, got a deep tissue massage, stretching, etc., and still have a slight pain. How do I know when I go back to running? My 1/2 Iron plan started this week and I’m itching to start running. Should I just tap it and deal with it? This is really frustrating so any help would be great.
The stretching starts upon a good diagnosis Sounds like you are on the right track. Many people can train through PF with proper self treatment (yes, I like the taping if you are going to run through it) and some can not.
Seriously, if a partial tear (or any number of other things), then stretching can make things worse. Everyone always seems to say here: ice, stretch, etc. Now, since this is almost a strain, plantar fasciitis, etc. it is often the right info, but … this is still an internet forum and no substitute for a proper diagnostic workup.
I have struggled with one of my arches as well. I have had excellent success with a night splint http://www.nightsplints.com/night_splints.php. I haven’t used it overnight, just strap it on for an hour or so
when on the net/tv. Of course best bet is to see a doctor

Doc said, ice, stretch, and repeat, as well as stay away from any running for two weeks. Said I also have a very large arch and that I should look at some inserts if I can find them and to take my shoes with me to make sure they are fitted properly. So everyone thanks for the insight and advice.
