Aquaman wetsuits not for longer distances?

I’ve noticed that almost all of the pros listed on Aquaman’s website (www.aquamantri.com) are short course athletes. I’ve also noticed that this brand does not seem to be quite as popular as some others for IM races. Is this an indication of the wetsuit at all? Is this suit thought to be too restrictive for longer swims, yet the speed of shedding it makes it a logical choice for oly distance?

I’m wondering this because I’ve considered getting one for quite a while, mostly for IM distance races. I just thought it odd that a suit as popular as this on the ITU circuit would not be more used more in IMs.

I sell and have raced many times in several models of Aquaman wetsuits including the new metal cell.

I think they are an excellent choice for ultra-distance swims based on my experience. The key thing is if they fit you correctly.

my good buddy just bought one and raced for the first time in it at imlp. he’s not a “swimmer” at all but got out of the water in 1:10 easily. he loves it. hopefully he’s reading this thread and wll chime it himself.

I raced multiple IM’s in my first Aquaman fullsuit. I loved it. I bought a Metal Cell last year and raced two IM’s in it this Summer. It’s great. It fits nice and I like the way the zipper is reversed. One of the Tri magazines said it can be a bit hot if you’re doing late summer races with really warm water. I haven’t had that experience though.

I have a Pulsar that I bought from my good friend and importer Emmanuel at the Ironman Florida bandit expo. I raced in it a few days later and had no trouble at all. I’ve done all my open water swimming in it and have had a few 3+ mile swims in Lake Michigan with no trouble.

Aquaman seems to focus their marketing (sponsorship) on short course athlete currently.

I have a bionic and am happy with it. No reason why you can’t go longer with it.

Tom hit the key…the fit is huge. My Bionic rocks. I feel great after using it to slice through 1 mile+ swims.

Hijack::: Tell me about the bandit expo.

Lessing wore an Aquaman in Lake Placid - He had a pretty good swim - came out of the water 10 seconds ahead of me. (I was on my first lap - he was finishing)

Sheila T. also wears an Aquaman - she loves it. Z

In 2001 it was in a strip mall across the street from the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Lots of good deals there on pretty much anything you could want - tri related.
