Aquajogging tips, please

Guys, I have just come back from the physio and I will be at least another week off of running due to an inflammed achilles. This week I have been aquajogging but find myself going up and down the pool when I recall being told to jog on the spot last time I had to do this . So what points can you offer? I recall that the legs stay under the body a la pose form and arms slice through the water sprint style rather than catch the water in the hands. Correct?

You mean you’re moving forward as you go, correct?

I think that’s to be expected, and your forward motion tends to increase the "harder’ you go. That’s o.k., as long as you’re not trying to move forward. All the leg and arm motion causes you to move forward naturally.

I try to use this motion to my advantage - staying in the deeper half of a 25 m pool - I try to do some sprint work: going as hard as I can to the wall, then easier on the way back, after I turn. This keeps the effort honest, and keeps my heart rate a little higher as well.

Go to Doug Stern’s website. I think he has info.

Search here Julian - lots of posts on how to do it - think most of them under water running
.

Thanks, Dan that’s pretty much what I have been doing.

Tim, is it just www.dougstern.com?

Cheers, Shaun. How is the recovery going after Florida? Good I hope.

business trip from hell - Atlanta, Savannah, Charlotte, Nashville, Birmingham this week - haven’t been home since the race - get back on Sunday…legs etc are feeling good - injury appears to be making progress - saved a few of the articles on my other machine and will email them on Sunday if you don’t find what you need…

Doug Stern is your man on this. He is a Deep Water Running instructor and an expert on the topic.

Julian, check the web site below and click on “How To Aquarun” on the navigation bar. The site is somewhat geared at the classes Amy teaches, i.e. using an aqua jogger, but I believe she also explains how to aqua run without a “flotation device”. Hope this helps, Christina

Sorry to hear about the trip, but good news on the injury front. Just don’t rush it back too quickly. That would be great if you could send those on to me.

Cheers,

in the office next week and was hoping to start some slow biking - maybe join you on the aqua jog thing - done it before though and don’t like it much
.

Thanks Tom, I will google Doug’s site. Not long to Doug’s camp for you and Sarah and your wedding if I recall correctly.

did we organise a slowtwitch wedding give for the futher Mr and Mrs Demerly??

I’m not a great fan of it but am having to use it to start my IM training for SA. At least this way I can start getting the HR up and the weight down.

you organised in SA? Got family I could try to hook you up with in PE

Thanks Christina, a direct link is great and much appreciated. I have an aquajogger so this should be spot on for me. I will put it on my favourites now, thanks again.

business trip from hell - Atlanta, Savannah, Charlotte, Nashville, Birmingham this week -

well, it WAS a ragged trip start, wasn't it? it only got worse at my condo, which had 3 jackhammers outside my door, after driving all night. and a phone which had a radio station coming through, & zip cooperation from delta on getting my bike. it finally all resolved itself, but what a way to start an IM. you must have done better, looking at your very good results. many congratulations!

Yep. Go to t he Deep water running button.

thank you peggy - didn’t see you at the race? how’d it go? No doubt this is not the time of year to be in PCB - haven’t seen so much construction in a long time - had similar noise issues to you…
