Apprehension traveling to Marbella, Spain for worlds

No way I’m venturing into that cesspool but all I can see is you are kicking out illegal immigrants which is fine, you are trying to clean up crime ridden cities fine, getting rid of men in women’s sport fine. The only part that should upset foreigners is the tariffs?

You should be fine in Spain, as you would be in Canada or almost anywhere. No one holds the politics of leaders against individuals from the same country because 99.99999 percent of people realize that what leaders do and what individuals want are often misaligned to the point of being orthogonal, unless of course the individual goes and pushes the themes of the leaders on the place they visit, at which point the hosts may not react favourably. On that card, you should have nothing to worry about.

I hope to see you in Marbella and cheer you on to a great race! Just tell your leader not to invade Canada because then you won’t be able to use maple leaf patches !!!

I’ve had no issues in Germany, France or Spain this year, and I’ll be in Marbella with plans to drive up to Valencia, Girona, and Barcelona after the race. Zero concerns or hostility experienced. The drivers have been great - no tailgating or road rage seen, and the only thing mean has been the pastries. though I suffer from the same pastry-hostility here in Boulder

You’ll be fine. Nice was fine. The worst part about travelling is always heading back into US Customs, but even that has gotten better. Still not very well organized though.

Europeans and other foreigners might not like the following: pulling out of the World Health Organization, pulling out of the Paris Agreement, dismantling aid agencies around the world that provide vital humanitarian food and medicine to the world’s most vulnerable populations. (“America first” might be repugnant to many) Defunding science and education is another topic foreigners might not love. And some foreigners might not be comfortable with the cruelty and violence of the ICE raids (without due process). Cleaning up crime is a made-up crisis. Please don’t believe that. Deploying the military against civilians might not be plateable for some foreigners. But I’m risking a hand slap for discussing politics here. If you want to discuss further, there is a forum for that.

I don’t know if calling the Politics is Life a cesspool is a fair evaluation. There are conservative members too with different viewpoints, and we discuss topics mostly with civility.

Mate as an Aussie I’m hardly going to give a shit about you (a country with nuclear power) pulling out the Paris agreement while China a member to the same agreement has 1,200 odd coal fire power stations with another 300 being built. India cough cough.. Shit Australia is all coal.

As for aid, well as far as I can tell the US has provided more than their fare share than the rest of the world, maybe they need to step up.

The other issues, well all I see on the news are your streets full of drugged out zombies, if the local agencies have been willing and able to let things get that bad then I would be very happy to get any help from a federal level.

In a nutshell I don’t think they are any reasons to harbour ill will against the US, especially compared to invading and being involved in wars like the last few decades.

Take this to the other forum. You don’t live in the US and don’t know what you’re talking about.

And if you don’t give a shit (your words), then stop shitting on my thread.

This whole thread should be in the politics forum and not here. You asked the question to stir the exact convo you got, so now it’s time to take the whole thing where it belongs.

Now this is why someone might not like an American. You share your concern, I as a foreigner explain why I don’t think anyone should not make Americans feel welcome and you get all aggressive and shitty because I’m guessing my opinion doesn’t match your domestic political opinion.

Lol awesome…

I figured there would be one guy like gunna who wants to be a shit stirrer.

I really wanted some genuine feedback. I am familiar with folks in the other forum and most are not traveling to races in Europe as they are mostly retired from racing now. I got mostly great responses here and don’t regret creating this thread. If you don’t like it, you can always scroll past it.

What’s shit stirring about saying people shouldn’t have any ill will towards Americans?

Weird…

Or were you hoping someone would say yeah we hate Trump but not you..?

Or you can put it where it belongs. You acted like a stereotypical entitled American asshole when you got a response you didn’t like. You know, that stereotype that perpetuates your fake fear and makes us all look bad. So either don’t be a jerk to an opposing view point or take it to the politics forum where it belongs.

Have a nice day

USA is just another country to most. And for those who do care about their foreign policy, nobody believes their citizens have a say in all that. We know you only get to choose the colour of the puppet party.

I love how all the conservatives are jumping on this now. You’ve been absent from the other forum. Would love to know your thoughts on all this but not here obviously

i am going to move it since it’s gotten too political. I asked that it wouldn’t get political but these are extraordinary times. And everyone is so divided.

For the most part I think a negative reaction from locals to tourists is driven by their experience with tourists from said country rather than global politics. 10 years ago I would have Europeans react negatively to me speaking English until they found out I was Canadian. Kill em with kindness is an especially good policy when you’re a tourist and you can count on having zero issues if you do that.

The Spaniards I know are very interested in American politics and have strong opinions about it, but they’d only ever meet an American with curiosity about what your world is like. They ask me all the time for the Canadian perspective on what is happening in the US.

I moved this to the Politics forum. My thread is sincere. I am truly worried about traveling right now. Even one member here in the Politics forum said they would never travel to the EU right now during these times. I wanted to keep it non-political but I guess during these times, it’s really impossible.

For the most part the replies were pretty good. I probably have nothing to worry about.

“your streets full of drugged out zombies” said by gunna - yeah I didn’t like that answer as it’s insulting coming from someone who doesn’t live here in the US.

You must be uncomfortable too with how things are going on in the US as my thread definitely hit a nerve.
