Very nicely done. 1/5:07/3:36 = 9:52. Very legit.
That is impressive!!
Indeed. The dude is a darn good athlete.
Agree. I know the celebrity slots get criticized a lot but I do enjoy when they use them for elite athletes from another sport. Especially when the athlete takes it seriously.
wow, nice. any other celebrities compete? know the times?
The guy is fast enough to earn an age group kona slot next year if he wanted to.

Agreed - I think this was one time where the “celebrity slot” was well chosen. That was a damn fine performance for the big show
Apollo got a Chocolate Milk sponsor slot, not a celebrity slot.
That’s a great time! At the same time, does he have to do anything besides train for Ironman? Is he still speed skating?
Under 10 hrs baby!

A pretty impressive 10:15 by Astronaut Chris Cassidy too, who was in space for 6 months last year.

I heard during the live feed he did a one hour swim which seems incredible.
In the Chocolate Milk videos he looked good running with Crowie and Rinny.
Awesome effort !

This was precisely my thought. The time is impressive, but what else does he have going on? Not being snarky…I just imagine full time athletes having copious amounts of training/resting time.

From what I saw in his interview on Breakfast with Bob and some of the Got Chocolate Milk videos is he has some business ventures and does travel on business to Asia.
I would bet he has a lot more pressing on his schedule than most FOP AGers. Granted, he may be able to better call the shots on his schedule.
Sure there are some FOP AGers who work a ton, but it seems that a lot of FOP have jobs that are extremely flexible…or they specifically don’t have super intense, high-level corporate type jobs - which make it about impossible to do continuous training, heavy IM builds of 20+ hours per week, etc. Of course, I’m sure there are SOME. FOP IM training for AGers takes serious commitment over a long period of time (ok, sure there’s an outlier or two). But for vast majority of folks… something has to give.
Who coached him? I wonder if he had a swimming background, obviously he had strong legs to begin with, but that swim was sweet.
Who coached him?
Paula Newby-Fraser.

He did have one. IIRC he was a state champion breast stroker at some point. He stopped at the age of 14.
