I am still working through all the characters vices / baggage . Just a few shows so far .
I have been watching. It is a little “out there” but I am giving it some more time.
I don’t know Butchie instead.
I hope its not going toward some religious end with " J C " . I was hoping for gratuitous sex and violence that we have come to love from HBO.
Now that the Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale, are all gone, and I missed the beginning of Big Love, so I can’t catch up there, I thought I would give John a chance… The surfing parts intrigued me, and it looks like it will be the theme of the show…I have no idea where it is going, John’s either an alien, the devil, Jesus, or someone from another universe…I wonder why they are making more and more shows that you have to have watched from the beginning, or just won’t bother later on… I’m going to give it a couple more episodes and see what develvopes. I love the AL Bundy charcter so far, and the one liners that John uses are hilarious…What was the dump line again??? That was some funny shit…(-;
I’ve enjoyed it. I love the opening song (Johnny Appleseed by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros).
I have no idea where it is going, John’s either an alien, the devil, Jesus, or someone from another universe…
with the JC initials ,I wonder
What was the dump line again??? That was some funny shit…(-;
************************
He is like a blank brain loading one liners .
Someone gets punched ,they look a john “you want some of this " …” Yes ,I want some of this "he says
The Al bundy guy says 'I got my eye on you buddy " " NO, I got my eye on you " says john
The “See God” line has me wondering .
.
did you notice all the deadwood characters? there was wild bill’s sidekick, charlie utter. and what’s his name, elwood, the guy who married the proper lady with the gold mine. and the doctor was the guy who killed wild bill, whose droopy eye looked like the hood of a cunt (just quoting here). that line just knocked jonas out. he never really understood america’s greatness until he saw that deadwood episode. he walked around for a week saying everything and everybody looked to him like the hood of a cunt.
i think the show has promise. i didn’t understand a thing. i was watching that show ignorant, like the hood of a cunt, but i enjoyed it.
OK, this show is getting really good now. I’m starting to get it, John is definately the second coming…Lots of Jesus CHrist and God references, and it appears that John is gathering his disiciples. The doctor, the Hawaiians, the retired cop, the mexican, the gay, the lawyer, burned out surfer chick, the hot chick in the porsche, and the ex viet nam vet…And they are using more and more of the actors of Deadwood, and the writing is leaning towards the prose they used there…I’m hooked now, just wondering if anyone else is digging it…
It all seems on track for an HBO style show , bits of gratuitous violence . Little in the way of deadwood / soprano full nude sex. Even the as you put it " the burned out surfer chick " has more morals than to do a full on nude HBO whauka whauka scene . Unless butchie and John go gay , it will be a slow show with the second cumming .
It looks good so far.
“Butchie’s gonna put the hammer down, gotta get rid of that unsightly bulge.” The Bundy/Hawaiian match up looks like it will be a good one…
Watching three seasons of episodes of Deadwood seriatim was good for many hours on the trainer. Did you develop an affinity for Six Feet Under? You can get five seasons out of that. Uncommonly good character development, but not so great for the trainer. They did some things the first few shows that were a bit off-putting, but they found their stride. The Wire (3 seasons) was also strong, and the Shield (5 seasons, not HBO) very good trainer fodder.
i try to avoid the trainer and involvement in TV serials. i never got hooked into 6 feet under, tho i saw one or two and it looked interesting.
I’m an episode behind, not quite sure if I like it or not, interesting enough to keep me watching, so I plan to stick it out (monty, Monk and slowman can’t all be wrong, eh?).
No idea where it’s going, but sounds like the latest episode starts to give it some direction, guess that will be tonight’s main viewing event (On Demand is niiice).
The main man behind Deadwood is also at the helm for J in C. He evidently likes the actors.
My .02:
Deadwood and The Shield = great fodder for the trainer or the couch. Six Feet Under = high grade drama.
The Wire, well, it’s just about ruined all other television for me.
Is Deadwood over? I sort of wondered, but couldn’t find any news during a very brief search.
I wonder why they are making more and more shows that you have to have watched from the beginning, or just won’t bother later on
Because you’ll buy/rent it on DVD?
Spin–
I’m not watching John from C. I’ll wait for the DVD. But same guy as Deadwood is involved–David Milch. He is an unbelievable personality in his own right.
Manic depressive. OCD. He was a creative force behind Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue. He produced/directed and or wrote 5 seasons of Hill Street and many of NYPD Blue. Most all while alcohol, gambling and drug addicted, including heroin. Manufacturer and user of LSD. Victim of pedophilia. Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude from Yale undergrad. Thrown out of Yale law school for blowing out street lights with a shotgun while on LSD.
He did most of the writing for Deadwood laying on the floor looking up at screens on the ceiling spouting dialogue while a typist behind a screen captured it and projected it on the ceiling. Other writers sat around to watch, listen and learn. He claimed that he needed to be in the presence of a social situation or might be found in his apartment hanging upside down like a bat.
Holy Hunter Thompson. Wow.
That is a hell of a body of work. I had no idea. Hill Street alone is a career. Really takes me back. That show was IT.
I could happily fill a whole lot of couch time with nothing but Milch product. I may have to Netflix Hill St. this winter now.
From your description, a week spent hanging with him would be, well, very interesting if not enlightening. I hope I’ve heard correctly that Milch is putting together 2 final 2hr episodes of Deadwood.
I’m still on the fence with J in Cinci, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for at least a few more episodes. I think going the dvd route has the upside of being able to watch multiple episodes back to back, sort of offsets slow pacing and puzzle pieces that stretch across a few hrs.
Hey… Hey! …Let’s be careful out there.
Anyone catch last night’s show? That was just plain weird. But we definitely learned a lot. I wonder how much crap I missed while John was rambling though. It seemed like I only picked up on about half of what he was saying…
Definately have to watch that part 2 or 3 times. What he is doing is reading everyones minds, and spouting off little tidbits. You have to get it fast, to figure out which mind he is reading. Then he throws in a few thoughts from his father(god) to really confuse the situation, and I think the original JC. I think he must be his brother or something. That one segment might just be too complicated to get it all, but I liked it…
