Just curious for anyone that came from traditional fluid trainers (like Cycleops) that maybe have switched to Lemond Revolution trainer? Pros/Cons in your opinion? I get some of the basic pros: more road like feel, don’t destroy your tire
had both, lemond trainer hands down better - downsides are the noise (i have to wear wireless headphones to watch tv) and i find it i wanted to do some big gear 40-50 rpm stuff (simulate a hard climb for example) i am not working hard enough, the gearing is just not there
.
So I live in a three level townhouse. Middle level is the main living/tv area, lower level is rec/bike room, top is bedrooms.
So I set it up in the lower level and start pedaling in a 53x17, nothing too outrageous. First thoughts - holy f*ck loud, I’m gonna have to resell this…
However, this morning I did the noise test with the wife. I closed the door to the lower level and she was sitting in the main level. Cranked it up, and she said she could really hear much, that it sounded more like there was a dehumidifier on…
That was a big relief. So other than the noise, seems like a really nice trainer, I like not having to use my rear wheel, and it feels very smooth with none of the tire slipping you get with traditional trainers.
I have been on mine since right after release so have a ton of time on it. LOVE is an understatement. I had the Houdaille Road Machine way back when which is what the LeMond copied. I can say w/o a doubt having had wind, fluid, mag and now LeMond…LeMond wins for me. It’s really no better than the Houdaille, actually IMO a bit less ‘solid’ in terms of construction feel to me than the Road Machine.
It is noisier, but I always rode with my iPod in so it was nada to me. Other than the wind in my face I can’t tell if I’m on the road or on the LeMond.
