Anyone used DeSoto Powertri Shorts

Thinking of some new tri shorts, and looking at these rather than the regular ones. Not sure about the pockets and whether they’re worthwhile or not. Thought I’d see if anyone else had used them.

Yep, I’ve got them. Love 'em. They feel great, and they are a little onger than the standard DeSoto shorts (a plus in my book). At my last race, I stuck two gels and a ziplock with two tylenol in the pockets, put on the wetsuit, swam and biked, and then ate the gels on the run (never used the tylenol). The pockets worked great, I never noticed there was anything in them.

I use them for all my races and some training rides - in fact I used them for Ironman Florida last year. I only used the pockets on the run, but had some salt tablets and tylenol in there - never noticed either one of them.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m ordering a T1 wetsuit, so I’ll get a pair put in with them. Was just wondering about things rattling in the pockets. Everything else DeSoto I’ve ever seen has been top notch, so not surprised to hear good feedback.

Cheers,

J.

First class product - hard wearing, well made, and the compression effect over the muscles on the run can only help.

I don’t have short cycling shorts. I use DeSoto Powertri Shorts for all my training, duathlons, longer tris and some runs. Short tris I do with DSS Tri Brief.
The DeSoto Powertri Shorts are great shorts. I really like the pocket on the leg.

I would highly recommend these. I have been using these since they appeared on the market and purchased throughout their evolution to single pocket and 4/5 pocket versions. The short itself is of the usual quality you have experienced with De Soto and the pockets are great for carying keys and gel on training runs/rides, or a mobile phone without feeling that you are encumbered. There is no difficulty from the pockets for swimming or otherwise, top product.

Concur. I have a DeSoto Powersuit for races and the Powershorts for training. The thinner pad works well when wet and dries/wicks quickly.

I like them. I have 2 pairs of them. The first pair was a size L but didn’t exactly support me correctly when running so I had to go down to a size M. Good shorts.

Great shorts! I particularly like the single-pocket model, which they aren’t making anymore - it’s either four pockets or none. I have just received a pair of the new no-pocket model, and is it my imagination or is the pad (now green) thicker than before? I can make do with very thin pads, and balk at thick. I haven’t worn them yet, just contemplating the pad for a while.

As for things rattling in the pockets - they don’t. The pockets are a stretchy mesh that holds relatively lightweight stuff tightly in place. For IMLP last year I utilized all four pockets on the run and was glad to have them.

They are all I use - I have the Power shorts and the power Bibs as well as a power skin suit. I only have the one pocket on the shorts, but have five on the bibs. While I only use two of them, I don’t notice the others at all. If you don’t like them, you can always send them back.

Ran in the Desotos this morning. Ran in them at Lake Placid. Ran the NYC Marathon in them and on all my training rides. Great, durable shorts.

That said, Oomph! makes the best shorts I’ve ever worn and will be racing in at Placid this year: The Lava Compression Shorts. Amazing! Supportive, comfortable, a nice gel pocket in the back, great (thin) cycling pad, and they look awesome.

I used to own a running store and bought (for the store and for myself) tri-shorts from DeSoto, Zoot, Sugoi, Hind, Louis Garneau, TYR, Speedo, PearlIzumi, Polo RLX, and Voler. The DeSoto shorts were the best seller by far. It’s similar to footwear (and bikes) in that you gotta get what fits, but I never had anyone return DeSoto product due to quality issues and I can’t say the same about the other manufacturers. I used a Power Tri-Suit at IMF a few years back and can honestly say that the hamstring support made a big difference on the second loop of the run course.

Just bought and tested some of the “improved style” powertri shorts. Not sure what exactly was improved in the style. They seem to be exactly the same as last year’s model except the fleece pad is greenish and made from recycled plastic fibers. Rode about 30 miles in them (with a saddle cover as well) and they felt great…better than my normal bike shorts. I don’t care for the pockets and they have a pocketless version this year which is nice. My only wish is that they’d bring back the “ribbed” fabric that they used in the original versions!

Do they have MORE compression than the DeSoto shorts??

Do they have MORE compression than the DeSoto shorts??

Yes, but not in a tight or binding way. The best way I can describe the Oomph! Lava shorts is that they make your lower body feel stable and supported in a much more substantial way than the Desotos. I strongly believe that they’re worth every penny and I’ve spent a lot of pennies on a variety of tri-shorts over the years. Oomph! (quality and comfort-wise) is like Assos, but for triathlon.
