Anyone used arm coolers?

With the Florida 70.3 approaching, I was curious if anyone has used arm coolers? Are they really beneficial in reducing internal body temperature? After spending almost 10 years in the dry heat of California and no time to aclimate to the Florida heat and humidity I was looking for input in how to keep my body from overheating. I seem to suffer the same problems as the Thunderbear when it comes to the heat. Any suggestions?

I have used them and felt no benefit in humid North Carolina summer conditions. My theory is that they may be more effective in dry heat by keeping a layer of moisture next to your skin just a little longer for an air conditioning effect. In high humidity, the sweat doesn’t evaporate, so no need to add a layer for no good reason. Plus, struggling those things on with wet arms didn’t do a lot of favors for my T1 split in the race I used them. My current use for the arm coolers is as light weight arm warmers, for which they work fine.

i used them and very impress by them, they definitly reduce the stress of the sun on the skin for me. Keeping them wet will also help out a lot but overall, it s a very nice well made inexpensive peice of equippement and i will be racing with them at ironman AZ…

they are also great for everyday training for those that want to avoid exposure to the sun… i pass so much time outside, i think it s a wise idea to protect myself…

Im thinking about trying them saw a guy wearin them today, in florida they might be a good thing
.

I have been using them for training, I love them, I will be using them at IMAZ for sure.

Hey hey hey, I had them first!!!

Not sure they are any cooler in humid weather, but in the dry they seem to work. Best thing about them is the skin protection. If you have been doing triathlons for over 5 years and plan to continue you really need to think about skin protection. I know of three of my 30 year bike rider friends have picked up a skin cancer in the last two years. Get your skin check annually by the MD

I think that’s gotta be the best benefit of them, especially for people who are sensitive to the sun
