I see that the Fairmont Vancouver airport has a $15 drop in fee and are located 10 min walk from domestic terminal and 5 min from International. I have a layover on Tuesday between a 6 hour and 12 hour flight, and thought if I have time, it might be worth getting in a short run on the treadmill, lift some weights and hop in the pool (they claim some endless pool type contraption) to unwind before the 12 hour leg…worth it? Anyone use the facility?
We stayed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport around 3 years ago and although I didn’t use it, the gym looked very well equipped with modern machines/treadmills/swimming pool etc…it looked like a nice facility and worth the $15 drop in (which isn’t much higher than a standard public gym drop-in fee anyway), it sits right above the international check-in area at the east end of the airport. In fact for $15 I might take advantage of that before catching a long-haul flight back to Oz/NZ next time…I get sick of pacing past the same airport shops repeatedly in an effort to stretch my legs…
Bah! That’s what the lounge is for… ![]()
I heard from a friend who stayed there just before x-mas that it was pretty well set-up, worth the $15.
Have fun, and if you opt for the lounge drop me a line LOL

EDIT: I assume you are coming in from ON and heading out INT’L. If you were heading out to the US (or your next stop was in the US), you’d have to clear US customs after which you are trapped. Make sure you hit the gym and finish up with about 2hrs to clear US customs if you in fact are going that way… otherwise yer fine ![]()
If you have a car, the Minoru Aquatic Centre is only a few minutes away. They have a couple of nice pools including a 30 m pool. There is also an outdoor running track at the complex. The hours are really good as well with public swims every morning.

don’t really need a car for that, just $2.50 for the bus (take the 424 to the main connection, then the 98 b-line south and get off at blundell and walk 5 minutes)
.
Thanks everyone for the input. I believe I have ~ 3 hours in between Ottawa to Van and then Van to Beijing. I just thought a short workout would break things up and also help me relax before the long trans pacific leg. Will post on how it works out, assuming flt number 1 goes off smooth with no late arrival.
