Anyone use CoachRob.TV?

Wondering if anyone has used CoachRob.tv’s program? Any thoughts?

I use the workouts some. I think the whole program is fantastic, plus the level of detail he goes through, and how it is all free. I’ve been very impressed with it/him. He is also great about feedback and communication. I haven’t sticked to the actual program in lockstep, though, because of a few reasons

  • it’s more cycling specific than tri - though he certainly mentioned triathletes and some alterations/options for us at times
  • I have the running and swimming workouts to schedule as well
  • A lot of times external factors influence my bike training schedule. If buddies are doing the 24 mile hilly group ride tonight, I’ll make that today’s workout. Or tomorrows. Not the intervals I was scheduled for or time trial or whatever…
  • I presume you are on a computrainer. Sticking to 3-4 workouts/ideas is just so limiting. Once ergvideos are involved… you’ll want to do those some days. Maybe RCV’s. Then I want to ride garmin downloads of past rides on upcoming races too… all of that doesn’t fit into rigid adherance
  • I’m not structured and competitive enough to recognize and stick to the build, maintain, base etc ‘phases’. I certainly alter my activity the week leading up to a race to taper, but beyond that I’m lucky enough if I get in a lot of my workout goals week after week… so I don’t want to purposely lower them at any times.

So here is what I do. I use the PSOP files he has available which are some pretty unique workouts. I mix those into my training by hitting them hard every… 2 weeks or so. I’ll use 3D and do 7 or 8 reps of those, using HR as a cooldown (for me - max HR 200, reps usually hit 175-180 and I wait for HR <140 before starting the next one). That makes for a great workout. Hope this is the kind of color you were looking for.

Thanks for the feedback. I may be actually trying to see if a more structured set of workouts helps me to improve. So far all the stuff I have tried over the years has not worked. I will be doing my riding on a used Velotron I purchased,
love it. Being able to get real structured feedback as to where I am and are the things I am doing actually improve results would be great. His videos are great to view. I have not used HR ever for anything. But, the power numbers give feedback that I cannot talk my way out of.
