Before we moved to a new home in March 2020 we loved having a cleaning lady. When both of us were doing full Ironmans, we were just so tired all the time. And with 3 long haired cats, we needed help. The woman who cleaned our house came every 2 weeks. She was best friends with the woman who cut our hair (small town life). We are both long time remote workers so she came to clean while we were working in our offices. It could have been awkward but we liked her a lot and always enjoyed a bit of chit chat. Sometimes she brought her daughters to help out and that was great since it took 1 hour instead of 3 hours.
They cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms, vacuumed and dusted the living room, and bedrooms. They did some steam mopping too. I preferred to do my own office since it was easy and I was sometimes on webex meetings. Sometimes they mopped the mudroom. It really helped us a lot. It was $105 well spent every 2 weeks. Now that we moved to a much more remote/rural area, we clean ourselves and I feel like I’m always falling behind. It’s a bigger house and we still have 3 long haired cats. If I could find someone out here who would venture down our long driveway in the winters, I’d have this service done again every 2 weeks or at least once a month.
Everyone is different but I think it’s money well spent.
Yes, house cleaning person comes in every two weeks. Is here for 4 hours and does most of which has already been described. $85 a pop. Before I was remarried I just did this stuff myself. I am a clean person, parents always drove that responsibility into my DNA. Wife put her foot down and said she wants that quality time with me and the rest is history. FFW 2 years and for the last year we both WFH. House is used more and harder, and the housecleaning person is a lifesaver. Worth every penny. We have hardwoods throughout and they need constant cleaning and deep cleaning (wet clean) every two weeks. Again as most have said, worth the investment.
You’ve got a lot of positive responses here about having a maid. Yeah, they clean your house. No shit.
The downside is that you’ve got a stranger in your house, probably when you are not there. Are they rifling through your personal belongings? Did they make a copy of your key? Do you trust them to appropriately secure your house when they leave?
I’m there when my gal comes and then I go to work and come back when she’s finished. She doesn’t have a key to my house but she does to both of my neighbors.
Our cleaners do our neighbors too. But one day I was jumping out of the shower - luckily already had a towel on - when I stepped out to three ladies in the hall. They had mixed up cleaning days with my neighbor and come to my house by mistake. I was not expecting them and may have screamed kind of loud to find three people in my house when I thought I was alone.

It’s all good - but it was a bit of a shock.
I saw a “movie” that started similarly, but the ending was much different than you described.
10 years later, this is now $200. But it is totally worth it. The gal I have now is the wife of the guy who did all of my painting and fence and pergola. She comes once every three months or so and does a deep clean. I do spot cleaning each week.
We pay $160 every two weeks. Usually a team of 2-3. Been using the same company for probably 10 years now. Same as ironclm, I spot clean throughout the week. I work from home, so it’s a no brainer.
If it was for kids and dogs we could get away with a monthly service.
